Adobe Download Manager (ADM) status window
The ADM status window will display the action the ADM is managing, the progress bar, the filename, the location, and the estimated time remaining. The Adobe Download Manager starts downloading in foreground mode, so the Download Only When My Internet Connection Is Idle setting is unchecked. This setting will provide the fastest possible download of your product.

Selecting the Download Only When My Internet Connection Is Idle option prevents the Download Manager from downloading products while your computer is using your Internet connection for other purposes. Note that using background mode may lengthen the amount of download time.

The Minimize To Tray button (Windows only) moves the Download Manager to the System Tray.

To pause the download, click the Pause button. To continue, click the Continue button.

Clicking Quit exits the Download Manager and stops all product downloads. Note that the Download Manager automatically resumes downloading your files when you restart the computer.

How download destinations work Finding downloaded files
How download destinations work
The Adobe Download Manager (ADM) downloads all files into the destination folder you select at the start of the download process. Once the folder has been selected, you will not be prompted again until the download completes (unless the download is interrupted). If another item is added to the download queue while the download is in progress, the ADM will automatically download the new item to the current destination. If the destination folder is not changed, the ADM will download the product to the default destination folder.
Operating systems Default destination
Windows C:\temp
Mac OS X Documents folder in Home*
(/Users/<username>/Documents)
Mac OS 9.1-9.2 Macintosh HD*
*First download only. Mac OS can remember the last folder you selected.
Finding downloaded files
If you cannot find your downloaded files, start the Adobe Download Manager and click the Open Folder button. This will open the folder containing the most recent downloaded files.
If you are prompted to resume your download, you will need to complete downloading all files.

Store download filenames
Store download purchases download as a single file containing all files necessary to install your product. Additional product content, when applicable, may be accessed from a separate link on the order confirmation e-mail, and Order Detail and Receipt pages. Filenames consist of a prefix, which is usually the product name and version. Filenames also usually have an extension, such as: EXE, HQX, BIN, SIT, DMG, or ZIP.

Font filenames
The filename for a downloaded font is an 8-digit number followed by the file extension, for example, 12345678.zip. All Type 1 (PostScript) font downloads will either have an HQX, SIT, ZIP, or EXE file extension. All Open Type Font (OTF) downloads have a ZIP file extension.

Adobe Download Manager Setup filenames

Backing up your download
This first thing you should do after your product download completes is back up your downloaded product. Talk to your network administrator about back up strategies or copy your downloads to a convenient media such as CD or DVD.
Electronic Software Distribution (ESD) product installations
Once you have completed downloading an executable product(s), clicking Install Now will automatically begin installing the executable product(s). If you click Install Later, you will need to double-click your ESD product to begin installation.

Installing fonts or non-executable products usually requires an extraction utility such as Stuffit Expander (Macintosh) or WinZip (Windows). Either double-click on the downloaded file or drag the downloaded file onto the extraction program icon to begin the file extraction.

Note: Adobe does not provide assistance installing a third-party product purchased on the Adobe Store. Contact the third-party developer for assistance with installing their product.

What to do if your download is interrupted
If your network connection is lost while downloading, you can restart the download where it left off. Simply reestablish your Internet connection and the Adobe Download Manager (ADM) will automatically reconnect.

If your system shuts down while a download is pending, the Download Manager will launch automatically when you restart your machine. If you purchase your products through the Adobe Store, you have five days to complete your download.

Download speeds
The Download Manager will neither improve nor hinder download speed in comparison to Web browser-managed product downloads. Download speeds will be affected by variations in Internet traffic, server loads, and other network or machine issues.

Certain virus scanning software may slow your download speed as much as four times. If you are experiencing a download rate that is substantially slower than what you normally experience, you may want to disable any virus checking software until the file is completely downloaded. Once it is downloaded, turn your virus scanning software back on, and scan the file before installation.

Maintaining continuous Internet connectivity using a dial-up modem
On many versions of Windows, wininet (Windows networking library) does not let the dial-up connection know that a file transfer is happening. The dial-up connection then times out and disconnects. To prevent your dial-up connection from disconnecting during a download, go to your Network and Dial-Up Connections control panel (Control Panel > Network). Start the modem connection, and click Properties in Dial window. In the Options tab, set Idle Time Before Hanging Up to Never. If your modem continues to disconnect while downloading, contact your Internet provider for additional tips on how to keep your connection up.

For assistance with the other dial-up program settings, please contact your Internet provider or refer to your dial-up help documentation.

Verifying download completion
You can start the Adobe Download Manager to verify if your download is complete. You will either see a message All Downloads Complete or be prompted to resume your Download Now.

How to remove the Adobe Download Manager
Although the Adobe Download Manager can be reused to download files from Adobe in the future, you can remove it from your system. In Windows, use the Add or Remove Programs Control Panel. In Mac OS, remove the Adobe Download Manager from Control Panels (Mac OS 9) or Applications: Utilities (Mac OS X), and remove Adobe DLM Plug-in from your browser's plug-in folder.
