Publish a project as a SWF file

Mouse-Over Text   Publish (SWF)

Overview

After previewing your project and making the necessary changes, you are ready to publish the project. In this topic, you will learn how to publish your project as a SWF file.

Publishing the project as a SWF file is an ideal option when you want to host the project output on a web server. You can also distribute the file over e-mail or shared servers. Your users can use Adobe Flash Player to view the output file.

Procedure

  1. Save the project (File > Save).
  2. Select File > Publish.

Publish option in the File menu

  3. In the Publish dialog box, select Flash (SWF), and configure the following options:
    • Enter the project title.
    • Select the Publish to Folder check box.
    • (Optional) Click Browse to specify a different path for publishing the project. By default, the SWF output is available at My Documents\My Adobe Captivate Projects.

Note: Ensure that the Export to HTML option is selected by default. This allows Captivate to create a JavaScript file for a browser view.

    • (Optional) Change the Flash player version to 9 or 10 depending on the version you have currently installed.
  4. Click Publish.

    Publish dialog box

  5. Go to the folder where you have published the project, and open the SWF file to view the output.

Summary

You can now share the SWF file with your users. If you want to upload the SWF file onto an FTP server, you may want to read Publish projects to an FTP server.
