Macromedia Breeze 4.0 Release Notes

This document addresses issues that may not be discussed in the Macromedia Breeze documentation. This document may be updated as more information becomes available.

What's New - Breeze Platform

New – Web Services Framework

Macromedia Breeze 4.0 introduces a revolution in the web communication solutions space with the availability of a comprehensive web services framework. This framework provides companies with the flexibility required to integrate into existing portal applications, web sites, and other enterprise applications. For example, an intranet portal application might list upcoming Breeze Live training sessions, or personalize courses based on the organization of the end-user, or add Breeze content and meeting information to existing search engines.

Enhanced – Business Reporting

The Breeze solution provides extensive tracking capabilities to collect and report on system usage, course tracking, presentation views, meeting usage, etc. To harness this information, Breeze provides many out-of-the-box reports for use by end-users. In addition to the previously available aggregate data downloads of data, end-users now have the ability to download content specific to a presentation, course, or meeting in CSV format. This provides a rich set of options for on-line and off-line analysis of Breeze usage.

Enhanced – Account Administration

Macromedia Breeze now provides account administrators with improved insight into account usage across Breeze Presentation, Training, and Live. Roll-up reports on author usage, concurrent Training usage, and meeting usage allow Account Administrators to better plan for the adoption and rollout of Macromedia Breeze within their organization.

Enhanced – End-to-End SSL Support

Macromedia Breeze now provides customers with the option for complete SSL encryption of all presentations and content. This ensures an organization's information is secured during publishing and viewing of presentations and training courses.

Note: To enable SSL for Breeze licensed customers, an SSL Hardware Accelerator is required.

What's New - Breeze Presentation and Training

New – Customizable Web Interface

The Breeze solution now allows organizations to customize the look of the Breeze application. This customization includes the use of corporate logos and color scheme. The customizable areas include the Breeze web application and all login pages of the application.

New – Customizable Breeze Player

The Breeze solution now allows organizations to customize the look of the Breeze Presentation Player. This customization includes the use of corporate logos and color scheme in presentations and course content.

New – Fully Searchable Archives

In addition to the Archive Index, Breeze now supports the searching of meeting archives. Once a recording is complete, end-users are able to search on content within a recorded meeting just as they would search for other types of content (presentations, etc…). The resulting links from a search allow the end-user to quickly locate and playback the most relevant information to their needs.

Enhanced – AICC Module

This release of Breeze supports a variety of improvements to AICC meta-data, as well as architecture changes providing greater flexibility around customization for deployment with an organization's LMS.

Enhanced – End-to-End SSL Support

Macromedia Breeze presentations and courses are now fully SSL-enabled, ensuring an organizations information is secured during all communications.

Note: To enable SSL for Breeze licensed customers, an SSL Hardware Accelerator is required.

What's New - Breeze Live

New - Application Sharing

Extending the existing screen sharing capabilities, Application Sharing allows users to collaborate remotely through a Breeze Live meeting. Application sharing provides users with remote control over other meeting participant desktops and applications, in a trusted environment.

New – Polling

Breeze Live now includes polling functionality to provide presenters with a means of gathering feedback from participants in real-time. This includes the ability to easily create new polls, real-time tracking of participant responses, and post-meeting reporting and downloading of participant responses.

New – Whiteboard

Breeze Live includes whiteboard capabilities allowing meeting participants to collaborate in real-time. This includes the ability for both presenters and participants to use the whiteboard, increasing the effectiveness of on-line meetings and collaborations within Breeze Live.

New – Archive Index

This release of Breeze Live introduces the next-generation in meeting recording usage. Existing web conferencing solutions record the entire event as a stream, which must then be played back in its entirety. This forces end-users to waste valuable time viewing content which may not be relevant to their needs. Breeze addresses this challenge head-on with the ability to record meetings at the content and event level. The resulting recording provides end-users with an index of meeting events and content, allowing quick navigation to the most relevant content.

New – Archive Searching

In addition to the Archive Index, Breeze now supports the searching of meeting archives. Once a recording is complete, end-users are able to search on content within a recorded meeting just as they would search for other types of content (presentations, etc…). The resulting links from a search allow the end-user to quickly locate and playback the most relevant information for their needs.

New – File Sharing

In addition to the ability to collaborate directly within a meeting, Breeze now provides the ability to share files amongst meeting participants. The File Sharing Pod provides presenters with the ability to upload and share files with participants. Additionally, presenters may allow participants to upload files to share with the meeting room.

New – Customizable Pod API

Breeze provides a wide-array of ready-to-use Pods including whiteboard, polling, audio/video, presentation sharing, notes, chat, and other useful tools for holding effective on-line meetings. Organizations may require additional Pods unique to their business requirements, so Breeze provides the industries first customizable Pod framework. This framework allows an organization to build Pods for use in their own meetings, further enhancing the effectiveness of the Breeze meeting experience.

New – Customizable Web Interface

The Breeze solution now allows organizations to customize the look of the Breeze application. This customization provides the use of corporate logos and color scheme in customizable areas including the Breeze web application and all login pages of the application.

New – End-to-End SSL Support

Macromedia Breeze Live now provides customers with the option for complete SSL encryption of all meetings and content. This ensures an organizations information is secured during all communications.

Note: To enable SSL for Breeze licensed customers, an SSL Hardware Accelerator is required.

New – Bandwidth Optimization

Macromedia Breeze Live now provides automatic bandwidth optimization capabilities for all meeting participants. Whether a user is on a dial-up connection, or a corporate LAN, Breeze Live can automatically adjust a participant's bandwidth settings to ensure optimal performance. The result is a highly effective communication and collaboration experience.

Enhanced – Participant List

The Participant List has been enhanced to include in-list reports on the different types of users in the meeting (participants, presenters), as well as an enhanced method for promoting and demoting participants to and from presenters. Finally, it includes the ability to sort by active users.

Enhanced – Video Aspect Ratio

The Breeze Live video pod now includes selectable aspect ratios for video sizing. These include portrait, standard, and landscape aspect ratios. These options allow an end-user to broadcast an individual or an entire room.

Enhanced – Active Speaker Recording

One of the challenges in creating high-quality recordings of live web conferences is the inevitable introduction of background noise from participants within the meeting room. Active Speaker recording provides a new audio option designed for recording meeting audio when using a speaker phone. This feature only records the audio of the user who selects “record.” This provides the presenter with greater control, ensuring a high-quality meeting recording.

Helpful Tips & Known Issues with Workarounds

General

Progressive JPEG and animated GIF image files are not supported.

An update to Flash Paper is required to use Flash Paper documents in Breeze. Documents created with earlier versions of Flash Paper must be recreated after installing the update. The Flash Paper 1.02 updater is available at http://www.macromedia.com/support/contribute/downloads.html.

Installation

Flash Communication Server MX must be uninstalled prior to installing Breeze 4.0.

The Breeze database is initially created and owned by the 'dbo' user. If the owner of the database has been set to a different user, you must also add after the last DB-related option the DB_OWNER=user entry to the custom.ini file.

Breeze Manager

Some URLs in the system have changed. Users who have bookmarked URLs for reports, folders or downloads will need to use Breeze Manager to navigate to these locations and update their bookmarks. URLs for the login page, content, courses and meetings have not changed.

When specifying "Select All" while deleting items (users, content, courses, meetings, etc.) using the Breeze Manager, only the items checked on the current page are deleted. Workaround: Specify a larger number of items to be displayed per page in order to increase the number of items you may delete from a single page.

Account customization options, particularly custom images, may take a few minutes to go into effect on the server. You may need to refresh the page in your browser a few times to confirm the new customization settings.

To specify a custom hex value background or navigation color using the color picker on the Account tab's Customize page, type the hexadecimal color notation and press the <Enter> key. The specified color will be updated in the preview area. Click the Save button to store the change on the server.

Breeze Live

Screen sharing and application sharing features are CPU intensive. For best results, use a system with a CPU of 1Ghz or greater to broadcast your screen or share your applications.

The Account tab always displays 'No' for the custom pods account option. After custom pods have been enabled for the account, custom pod upload is permitted and can be verified using a sample pod.

Breeze Live does not support playback of audio in PowerPoint presentations loaded into the Content pod. As a result, PowerPoint presentations that include animations synchronized with audio will not play correctly inside the Content pod. Workaround: Load a PowerPoint presentation with no audio.

Flash movies embedded in PowerPoint presentations do not display when the presentation is loaded in the Content pod. Workaround: Load Flash movies directly into the Content pod within Breeze Live.

Flash movie (.swf) files loaded into the Content pod may function abnormally or cause unexpected behavior if the movie attempts to create or modify variables in the root level of the meeting. Workaround: Test any Flash movies you intend to use in the meeting room before attempting to use them in a live meeting.

Breeze Live supports the display of PowerPoint slides containing quizzes and surveys, but does not support the tracking of user responses inside a meeting. Workaround: To track user responses, use Breeze Training features to set up a course, enroll users and send a notification of the course location via email.

Breeze Presentation

Animations included on PowerPoint's slide master are not supported in Breeze. Workaround: Include animations on individual slides instead of the slide master.

Numbered lists and alphabetized lists are converted to bulleted lists when converting the PowerPoint presentation on the server. Workaround: Use bullets in slides instead of numbered or alphabetized lists.

Linked images in presentations cannot be resolved by the server during conversion and the presentation will fail to publish. Workaround: Embed images instead of linking them.

Embedded fonts in PowerPoint presentations are not supported for fonts that have not been installed on the Breeze server. If a font is not available on the server, the unavailable font will be substituted with Arial during the conversion. Workaround: Fonts used to author a PowerPoint presentation must also be installed on the server.

Font substitution may cause formatting problems, since the positioning calculated by PowerPoint is related to the original font, and Arial or Arial Unicode MS may have different glyph dimensions. Workaround: Fonts used to author a PowerPoint presentation must also be installed on the server.

Breeze Training

Quiz slides and elements should be constructed through the Quizzes and Surveys dialog. Cut, copy and paste operations on quiz/survey elements may corrupt the PowerPoint file and introduce conversion errors when the file is uploaded to the server. Workaround: Use only the Quizzes and Surveys dialog to construct and manage quiz content is strongly recommended.

When setting up quizzes or surveys that require users to answer questions or answer questions correctly before proceeding, specify forward-only movement if you wish to prevent users from revisiting questions and changing their answers.

To be scored as correct, answers to quiz and survey questions must precisely match the correct answer specified for the question. If no correct answer is defined for the question (i.e. any answer is valid), the results page will show that any answer is incorrect because it does not match the empty correct answer value.

While animations may be added to quiz and survey slides, the quiz/survey elements (question, answers, buttons, etc.) on the slide cannot be animated.
