Macromedia Breeze 4.1 Release Notes

This document addresses issues that may not be discussed in the Macromedia Breeze documentation. This document may be updated as more information becomes available.

What's New - Breeze Platform

New - Full Product Localization

The full suite of Macromedia Breeze has now been localized in, French, German, Japanese, and Korean. Registered users of Breeze have the opportunity to select their preferred language while interacting with the solution. This provides end-users with the ability to select their desired language for content, courses, and meetings in order to optimize their experience with Breeze. This localization has been applied to all areas of the product, including the Breeze Manager (web application), Breeze Presenter Player, Breeze Live interface, and the Breeze Plug-in for Microsoft PowerPoint©. Breeze does not translate user-entered content, such as descriptions of presentations or presentations themselves, so these will retain the language in which they were created.

New - Standalone Breeze Installers

In addition to the Breeze server installer for Macromedia Breeze, the 4.1 release of Breeze will include a standalone installer of the Breeze Add-In for Presenters. This installer allows organizations with locked-down desktops to manage the roll-out of this Add-In across their infrastructure.

New - Breeze Solution Accelerators

Breeze Solutions Accelerators are kits that let you easily integrate Breeze with your organization's existing IT infrastructure—using standards such as XML and Java to exchange data. The accelerators consist of sample code and documentation to help you integrate Breeze functionality with your directory services, intranet applications, and portal pages.

What's New - Breeze Presentation and Training

New - Custom User Registration Fields

Macromedia Breeze collects basic information about a user during user registration. Many customers have asked for the ability to capture additional information about a user such as address, phone number, or other demographic information. Macromedia Breeze now enables business users to add their own unique fields to the user registration form, without any knowledge of code or database technologies. This information is than tracked and reported on within Macromedia Breeze and can be downloaded for use in external systems.

New - Custom User Surveys

Macromedia Breeze 4.1 provides users with the ability to create customizable user surveys (or forms) for Breeze Live and Breeze Training customers. These forms can be used to capture additional data points (free-form responses) when users are entering a course or on-line meeting. This information is saved and available for reporting, providing customers with an effective method for capturing additional user information.

New - Standalone Flash Paper Installation

Macromedia Breeze 4.1 introduces significant improvements to Flash Paper support. With Macromedia Breeze 4.1, authors may download the Flash Paper 2 application directly to their computers for publishing content to Flash Paper. This content can then be leveraged in Breeze presentations and courses.

What's New - Breeze Live

Enhanced - Push-to-Talk VoIP

The Camera and Voice Pod for Breeze Live has undergone significant usability enhancements to ensure success with Voice Over IP during on-line meetings. These enhancements include the use of a “push-to-talk” mode of operation, allowing users to identify specifically when their microphones should be active during a meeting. Users also have the option of locking the microphone “on” to allow for hands-free communication to meeting participants (such as during a one-to-many presentation). Finally, presenters can designate modes of operation, including: allowing multiple speakers to communicate at one time, allowing only a single speaker to communicate at one time, turning voice off, and finally, allowing or disabling participant camera and voice.

Enhanced - Flash Paper Support

Macromedia Breeze 4.1 introduces significant improvements to Macromedia Flash Paper support. Macromedia Flash Paper transforms any printable document into compact, web-friendly, fully-searchable Flash format, which can be easily shared during a Breeze Live meeting. With Macromedia Breeze 4.1, users may download the Flash Paper 2 print driver directly to their computers for publishing content to Flash Paper. This content can then be leveraged in both on- demand and real-time communication. Furthermore, Breeze Live presenters now have full control over what pages of a Flash Paper document the meeting participants see. This includes the ability to select text within a Flash Paper document, cut/paste content, as well as search for terms across a Flash Paper document.

Helpful Tips & Known Issues with Workarounds

General

Progressive JPEG and animated GIF image files are not supported.

An update to Flash Paper is required to use Flash Paper documents in Breeze. Documents created with earlier versions of Flash Paper must be recreated after installing the update. The Flash Paper 1.02 updater is available at http://www.macromedia.com/support/contribute/downloads.html .

Graphics content can be lost in Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 files if a document created in PowePoint 2003 is opened, edited and saved in any previous version of PowerPoint. Office 2003 Critical Update: KB828041 resolves this issue and may be downloaded at http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/updates/2003/off1101a.htm .

Installation

Flash Communication Server MX must be uninstalled prior to installing Breeze 4.1.

The Macromedia Breeze Plug-In for PowerPoint should not be installed on the same system as the Macromedia Breeze server.

The Breeze database is initially created and owned by the 'dbo' user. If the owner of the database has been set to a different user, you must also add after the last DB-related option the DB_OWNER=user entry to the custom.ini file.

Breeze Manager

Some URLs in the system have changed. Users who have bookmarked URLs for reports, folders or downloads will need to use Breeze Manager to navigate to these locations and update their bookmarks. URLs for the login page, content, courses and meetings have not changed.

When specifying "Select All" while deleting items (users, content, courses, meetings, etc.) using the Breeze Manager, only the items checked on the current page are deleted. Workaround: Specify a larger number of items to be displayed per page in order to increase the number of items you may delete from a single page.

Account customization options, particularly custom images, may take a few minutes to go into effect on the server. You may need to refresh the page in your browser a few times to confirm the new customization settings.

To specify a custom hex value background or navigation color using the color picker on the Account tab's Customize page, type the hexadecimal color notation and press the <Enter> key. The specified color will be updated in the preview area. Click the Save button to store the change on the server.

Account customization options are not applied to the initial login screen for each session when the Breeze server is listening for requests over non-default ports. Workaround: Configure the Breeze server to listen for web requests over port 80.

UTF-8 text in pull-down menus is rendered as ????? in MSIE 5.2 browsers on the Macintosh. For best results, international users are advised to use Safari, Netscape or Mozilla browsers with Breeze Manager.

The "Enterprise Administrator" user name always appears in English, regardless of the operating system locale. Workaround: Login to Breeze Manager using the Enterprise Administrator user and modify the First and Last Name fields to the desired name.

Breeze Live

Screen sharing and application sharing features are CPU intensive. For best results, use a system with a CPU of 1Ghz or greater to broadcast your screen or share your applications.

When controlling applications on a remote user's machine, the remote user's keyboard settings are utilized for all text input. Unexpected characters may appear if the remote keyboard settings are different than your own. Workaround: Set both computers to the same locale setting.

Under some circumstances, latency can develop over time while using the Push-To-Talk button in the Camera and Voice Pod. Workaround: Users can reset the pod and clear up latency by leaving the stage and joining it again.

Breeze Live does not support playback of audio in PowerPoint presentations loaded into the Content pod. As a result, PowerPoint presentations that include animations synchronized with audio will not play correctly inside the Content pod. Workaround: Load a PowerPoint presentation with no audio.

Flash movies embedded in PowerPoint presentations do not display when the presentation is loaded in the Content pod. Workaround: Load Flash movies directly into the Content pod within Breeze Live.

Flash movie (.swf) files loaded into the Content pod may function abnormally or cause unexpected behavior if the movie attempts to create or modify variables in the root level of the meeting. Workaround: Test any Flash movies you intend to use in the meeting room before attempting to use them in a live meeting.

Breeze Live supports the display of PowerPoint slides containing quizzes and surveys, but does not support the tracking of user responses inside a meeting. Workaround: To track user responses, use Breeze Training features to set up a course, enroll users and send a notification of the course location via email.

Breeze Presentation

Animations included on PowerPoint's slide master are not supported in Breeze. Workaround: Include animations on individual slides instead of the slide master.

Numbered lists and alphabetized lists are converted to bulleted lists when converting the PowerPoint presentation on the server. Workaround: Use bullets in slides instead of numbered or alphabetized lists.

Linked images in presentations cannot be resolved by the server during conversion and the presentation will fail to publish. Workaround: Embed images instead of linking them.

Embedded fonts in PowerPoint presentations are not supported for fonts that have not been installed on the Breeze server. If a font is not available on the server, the unavailable font will be substituted with Arial during the conversion. Workaround: Fonts used to author a PowerPoint presentation must also be installed on the server.

Font substitution may cause formatting problems, since the positioning calculated by PowerPoint is related to the original font, and Arial or Arial Unicode MS may have different glyph dimensions. Workaround: Fonts used to author a PowerPoint presentation must also be installed on the server.

Breeze Training

Quiz slides and elements should be constructed through the Quizzes and Surveys dialog. Cut, copy and paste operations on quiz/survey elements may corrupt the PowerPoint file and introduce conversion errors when the file is uploaded to the server. Workaround: Use only the Quizzes and Surveys dialog to construct and manage quiz content is strongly recommended.

When setting up quizzes or surveys that require users to answer questions or answer questions correctly before proceeding, specify forward-only movement if you wish to prevent users from revisiting questions and changing their answers.

To be scored as correct, answers to quiz and survey questions must precisely match the correct answer specified for the question. If no correct answer is defined for the question (i.e. any answer is valid), the results page will show that any answer is incorrect because it does not match the empty correct answer value.

While animations may be added to quiz and survey slides, the quiz/survey elements (question, answers, buttons, etc.) on the slide cannot be animated.
