Installing Macromedia Contribute from the Command Line (Windows only)

  1. Copy the installer file, Contribute_Installer.msi, from the FSCOMMAND folder on the Contribute 3 CD.
  2. Open a command prompt, and then type the following command:
    %Comspec% /c msiexec /I "\\computer name\folder name\Contribute_Installer.msi" /qn 

    Tip: If you want to customize your installation, do not press Enter yet. The options for customizing are in the next step.

    This command installs Contribute with default options and contains the following components:

    %Comspec% specifies the location of the command prompt interpreter (command.com or cmd.exe).

    /c is a switch that tells the shell to wait until the command completes before proceeding.

    msiexec is the executable program that the Windows Installer uses to interpret installation packages and install products on target systems.

    /I is a switch to msiexec.exe to install the product indicated by the MSI file after the switch.

    /qn is the switch for a silent install so that all dialog boxes are suppressed during the installation.

  3. (Optional) Append any of the following properties to your command to customize the installation.

    For example: C:\>c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe /C msiexec /I "c:\Contribute_Installer.msi" CreateDesktopShortcut=1 CreateQuickLaunchShortcut=1 FPAPERDESKTOP=1

    CreateDesktopShortcut specifies whether a Contribute shortcut appears on the desktop. A value of 0=no shortcut on the desktop, 1=shortcut on the desktop. The default value is 1.

    CreateQuicklaunchShortcut specifies whether a Contribute shortcut appears on the Quick Launch toolbar. A value of 0=no shortcut on the toolbar, 1= shortcut on the toolbar. The default value is 1.

    FPAPERDESKTOP specifies whether a FlashPaper shortcut appears on the desktop. A value of 0=no shortcut on the desktop, 1= shortcut on the desktop. The default value is 0.

    INSTALLDIR specifies the installation path for the product. By default, the installer writes folders and files the following folders:

    • C:/Program Files/Macromedia/Contribute 3
    • C:/Program Files/Macromedia/FlashPaper 2
  4. Press Enter when you are ready to run the command and install Contribute
