Adobe Flash Lite 2.1 Update for Flash Professional 8 Release Notes

This document addresses issues, primarily for Macromedia Flash Lite developers, which are not discussed in the Macromedia Flash Lite content development kit. This document may be updated periodically as more information becomes available.

Known Issues

The following issues are known to exist with this version of the Flash Lite 2.1 Update:

Installation

• If you uninstall Flash Professional 8 after installing the Flash Lite 2.1 Update, the uninstaller will not remove all the folders installed by the authoring update installer. To completely uninstall Flash 8 and the Flash Lite 2.1 Update, first uninstall the Flash Lite 2.1 Update, then uninstall Flash 8.
• Do not install the Flash Lite 2.0 Update after installing the Flash Lite 2.1 Update; this will result in an unstable installation configuration. To fix this problem, do the following:
1. Uninstall Flash Professional 8.
2. Uninstall the Flash Lite 2.0 Update.
3. Uninstall the Flash Lite 2.1 Update.
4. Re-install Flash Professional 8.
5. Re-install the Flash Lite 2.1 Update. (Do not re-install the Flash Lite 2.0 Update.)
• If, after installing the Flash Lite 2.1 Update, you uninstall and then reinstall Flash Professional 8, the authoring tool will crash when you open the Device Settings dialog. To fix this problem, run the Flash Lite 2.1 Update installer and click 'Repair' in the installer dialog.
• On Windows 2000 systems, after you install the Flash Lite 2.1 update, the Version pop-up menu in the Publish Settings dialog doesn't display menu options for Flash Player 2 or Flash Player 3, although those options are still available. To work around this problem, simply use the arrow key to scroll up the menu until Flash Player 2 and Flash Player 3 are displayed.

Publishing and testing

• Device Profiles in this offering may show Flash Lite 2.0 or Flash Lite 2.1 support even if a particular device has not yet been certified for that player version. This is for development purposes only and Adobe and its partners cannot guarantee that the device profiles will accurately reflect the on-device experience.
• The Flash Lite emulator in Flash Professional 8 always displays content in full-screen mode, even if your application doesn’t explicitly call fscommand2("FullScreen", true). This means that your application may display differently in the emulator than on an actual device. Always verify that your content appears as expected on an actual device.
• The Flash Lite 2.1 emulator follows the local security of Flash Player 7.
• If you publish a .fla with publish settings set to FL 2.0, BREW emulators are accessible via the Device Settings dialog. This is an error since BREW is not an available platform for FL 2.0. Workaround: for BREW emulation, publish with settings set to FL 2.1.
• If device/native sound is invoked while video is playing, then both will play simultaneously, instead of the native sound overriding the video.
• Set methods for AS Date() objects do not work correctly.
• If a device has any video formats listed in the device profile, all video formats will be accessible, even those not supported by the device.
