Adobe PageMaker includes user dictionary files that enable you to supplement the base-language dictionary with customized dictionary entries. These updated user dictionary files are only for U.S. English, U.K. English, and French Canadian languages because only these PageMaker language versions automatically install supplemental user dictionaries. Dictionary Editor does not open the user dictionary files installed with PageMaker 6.5, but opens these updated dictionary files as expected.

Adobe PageMaker 6.5 for the Macintosh
NOTE: If you have an existing user dictionary, all words you added to your user dictionary will be erased when you install this update. You cannot automatically transfer words in the user dictionary to the updated user dictionary--they must be reentered manually.
1. Quit PageMaker.
2. If you have an existing user dictionary, make a backup copy:
a. Find the user dictionary file (Aldque.udc, Aldukn.udc, or Aldusn.udc) in your base-language folder (Francais canadien, UK English, or US English) in the Proximity folder in the Linguists folder in the RSRC folder in the Adobe PageMaker 6.5 folder.
b. Copy the user dictionary file to a floppy disk or to a location on your hard drive outside of the Adobe PageMaker 6.5 folder.
3. If your base-language dictionary is French Canadian, copy the Aldque.udc file into the Franais canadien folder in the Proximity folder in the Linguists folder in the RSRC folder in the Adobe PageMaker 6.5 folder, replacing the existing Aldque.udc file.
If your base-language dictionary is U.K. English, copy the Aldukn.udc file into the UK English folder in the Proximity folder in the Linguists folder in the RSRC folder in the Adobe PageMaker 6.5 folder, replacing the existing Aldukn.udc file.
If your base-language dictionary is U.S. English, copy the Aldusn.udc file into the US English folder in the Proximity folder in the Linguists folder in the RSRC folder in the Adobe PageMaker 6.5 folder, replacing the existing Aldusn.udc file.
4. Restart PageMaker.
This update corrects only the problem listed above. If you experience other problems with the Dictionary Editor, please contact a PageMaker Technical Support Specialist. Information on how to contact Adobe Technical Support is included with PageMaker 6.5.
For information on using user dictionaries, see the Adobe PageMaker 6.5 User Guide, pp. 141-145.
