Paper Capture Plug-In

The Paper Capture Plug-in for Windows is a plug-in for Adobeᆴ Acrobatᆴ 5.0 that is based on the same technology as the Paper Capture Online service. It enables the "capturing" of an Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) file on a user's computer without sending the file over the Internet.

The Paper Capture Plug-in performs OCR (optical character recognition) on a PDF image file. The benefit of capturing the file is that it allows for the text to be searched and copied.

The Paper Capture Plug-in supports OCR in English, French, German, Brazilian Portuguese, Castilian Spanish, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Italian, Norwegian, Nynorsk, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, and Swiss German.

The maximum number of pages that can be captured using OCR within a single document is 50 pages. To capture documents of greater than 50 pages, explore using Adobe Acrobat Captureᆴ 3.0.

Paper Capture Plug-In user documentation (multilingual)

The Paper Capture Plug-in has been tested on English, German, and French versions of Acrobat 5.0. All other language user interfaces have yet to be completely tested at this time, but they have been included with this installer.

Additional notes

1. How do I know which version of Paper Capture to use?

The Paper Capture Online service is appropriate for Acrobat 5.0 users who:

* Have scanned image-only Adobe PDF files under 50 pages
* Are able to submit files over the Internet
* Want to take advantage of the ability to automatically create links within documents
* Want to make use of reusable preferences with additional job options.

The Paper Capture Plug-in is appropriate for Acrobat 5.0 users who:

* Use a Windows operating system
* Have scanned image-only Adobe PDF files under 50 pages
* Are not able to submit files over the Internet

2. Can I scan paper documents into Adobe PDF files without using Paper Capture?

Yes. With Acrobat 5.0, you can always scan paper documents to create an "image-only" Adobe PDF file that is a bitmap image of the paper document.

If you would like the text in the Adobe PDF file to be searchable, then you need to capture the PDF image file using the Paper Capture Online service on Adobe.com or the Paper Capture Plug-in.

3. Can an enterprise easily deploy the Paper Capture Plug-in throughout its organization?

Acrobat 5.0 supports deployment systems such as SMS. IT professionals can easily distribute the Paper Capture Plug-in with their existing processes. An enterprise can also post the Paper Capture Plug-in on its intranet site.
