An updated Photoshop (.psd) import filter is now available for Adobeﾮ InDesignﾮ 1.5.2. This filter offers enhanced support for importing Adobe Photoshopﾮ 6.0 (and earlier) files, including RGB, CMYK, LAB, Index, grayscale, and bitmap images. On import, InDesign 1.5.2 flattens the Photoshop image data, while leaving the original file untouched. The following settings are automatically included in the flattened image:
* Image data stored in layers, grouped layers, layer sets, and hidden layers
* Layer masks
* Layer blending modes/ranges
* Layer opacity
* Layer effects
* Adjustment layers
* Composite transparency
* Vector masks
* Text layers
* Patterns and styles
* Alpha channels and paths, which by default are converted into editable InDesign clipping paths

To use the Photoshop 6.0 import filter, you must have InDesign 1.5.2 for Microsoftﾮ Windowsﾮ installed (InDesign 1.5.2 runs on Windows 98, Windows NTﾮ 4.0 with Service Pack 4 or later, or Windows 2000).
If you are running InDesign 1.5, you can update to 1.5.2 at no charge by downloading the appropriate language update.
After downloading a ".exe" file in Windows, double-click on the ".exe" file to access the file's contents.

1. Quit InDesign if it is running.
2. Decompress the Photoshop import filter archive after downloading it.
3. Move the older Photoshop import filter from the Program Files\Adobe\InDesign 1.5\Required folder to a backup location. (We recommend this precautionary step in case you need to restore the previous filter.)
4. Move the updated Photoshop import filter into the Adobe InDesign 1.5: Program Files\Adobe\InDesign 1.5\Required folder.
5. Launch InDesign.
The updated Photoshop import filter is compatible with all Roman language versions of InDesign, including Universal English, French, German, Swedish, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Finnish, Norwegian, Danish, and Brazilian Portuguese. When you launch InDesign, the filter detects which language version is running and displays the appropriate user interface. A separate version of the updated filter is available for the Japanese version of Adobe InDesign.
