This archive contains an updated version of the Export PDF 3.0 plug-in which was previously available between December 23, 1997 and January 13, 1998. Adobe recommends that you download and install this updated version, which provides additional features or resolves problems as described below.
The Export PDF plug-in lets you create an Adobe PDF (Portable Document Format) file from an Adobe PageMaker publication. The Export PDF 3.01 plug-in includes the following enhancements to version 2.0 of the plug-in, which shipped with PageMaker 6.5.
The following problems have been resolved since January 13, 1998:
-- Version 3.01 enables you to import PDF styles. Version 3.0 did not properly import PDF styles.
-- In version 3.01, CMYK images in a publication are not converted to RGB when the publication is exported to PDF.
The following features are new since December 23, 1997:
-- A simplified, print-like dialog box replaces the nested dialog boxes that made it difficult to determine if settings were applied correctly. Paneled dialog boxes similar to PageMaker and Adobe Photoshop Preference menus now let you step through sets of related features.
-- A new printer style (Same as Current Publication) uses only the print settings specified in the publication.
-- Two styles, [On Screen] and [Print], come predefined with PDF settings to produce on-screen or high-end printed output successfully. In addition, custom PDF styles can be created, reused, and shared with other users.
-- The Base URL for Relative Links option lets you manage links to Web sites more easily when these links share the same base address.
-- The Default Appearance for Hyperlinks option lets you set attributes such as color, line width, and highlighting for hyperlinks in the resulting PDF.
The following features were modified since December 23, 1997:
-- Load and Save settings have been expanded and incorporated into PDF styles.
-- Reset returns settings in a single panel to their defaults. Reset All returns settings in all panels to their defaults. These features replace the Reset Settings feature in version 2.0 of the plug-in.
-- The Include Downloadable Fonts option now appears in the Save As dialog box only when you choose to create the PostScript file for distilling later.
-- The Always Print All Publications in a Book option has been replaced by Include All Publications in Book. The new option replaces the booked publications warning message and lets you export either the current publication or all booked publications.
-- The Automatic and Manual Compression settings now appear in the new Compression panel and have been combined in menu lists for each type of image.
-- The new compression setting called Same Resolution as Original makes it clearer when compression is turned off altogether.
The following features were removed since December 23, 1997:
-- Bookmark Redefinitions for TOC Entries: If you need to change the name of a bookmark automatically created from a table of contents, you will have to do so in Acrobat Exchange.
-- Watched Folders: The option to set up watched folders is now accessible only through Acrobat Distiller. However, you can still save your PostScript files to a watched folder.
Under certain conditions, the Export PDF 3.01 Plug-in Update can cause PageMaker to quit unexpectedly during the export process. You can avoid this problem by following these precautions:
-- Set your online browser preferences in PageMaker before installing the Export PDF 3.01 Plug-In update. To set these preferences, start PageMaker then select File > Preferences > Online. For instructions on how to install the Export PDF 3.01 Plug-In update, see the Export PDF User Guide included with the plug-in.
-- Make sure you fully install Acrobat Distiller 3.02 according to the installation instructions included with the Distiller 3.02 update. If you do not, you will be prompted to type in a serial number and otherwise personalize your copy of Distiller when you export a PDF from PageMaker, thereby causing PageMaker to fail.
-- Upgrade to Apple Mac OS 8.0 if you want to specify custom colors for hyperlinks in your PDF files.
