Adobe InDesign CS3 Digital Editions Export update

The Adobeᆴ InDesignᆴ CS3 Digital Editions Export version 1.0.1 update addresses a number of issues around the Export XHTML for Digital Editions feature, including:

Expanded TOC. You can now choose a TOC Style from InDesign and get a more detailed table of contents in Digital Editions. The new table of contents can include or replace the automatically generated TOC. When exporting a book, the TOC Style list is populated from the TOC Styles in the Style Source document. This is treated as a master document for the book, and so metadata, the definition of the styles used, and now the TOC Style are all taken from this document.

Font embedding. There is a new option in the options dialog box that embeds OpenTypeᆴ fonts in the exported OPS document. Only OpenType fonts that allow embedding will be included in the document. The fonts are protected in a manner similar to that in the Mars File Format Specification.

Implementation of OPS 2.0: Issues in the generation of the navigation information (the table of contents), the OPF file (which is at the center of the OPS 2.0 spec), and XHTML (the content of the "epub" document) were resolved. This update generates documents that implement the OPS 2.0 v0.984 draft specification dated 16-04-2007. Read more information on OPS and the International Digital Publishing Forum.

For Digital Editions Plug-in 1.0.1:
This new version of the Digital Editions Plug-in replaces the original Digital Editions Plug-in that was installed with InDesign CS3, Adobe Creative Suiteᆴ 3 Design Standard, or Creative Suite 3 Design Premium.

To install with Adobe InDesign CS3, Creative Suite 3 Design Standard, or Creative Suite 3 Design Premium:
1. Exit InDesign CS3.
2. Open My Computer.
3. Double-click Local Disk (C:).
4. Navigate to: (Please read directory carefully)

Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS3\ Scripts

5. Move the existing XHTML For Digital Editions folder to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Do not simply rename the folder, as InDesign searches sub-folders for the plug-in and would run both version 1.0 and 1.0.1 which would cause unpredictable behavior. Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
6. Drag the XHTML For Digital Editions folder from the download into the same folder as Step 4.
7. Launch InDesign CS3.

Check the Install.

To check that the plug-in was installed correctly in the right location:
1. Start InDesign CS3.
2. Create a new document.
3. Choose File > Cross-media Export > Xhtml / Digital Editions...
4. You should then see the Save As dialog box. Name the new document and then hit Save.
5. This then should bring up the XHTML/Digital Editions Export Options dalog box. If the plug-in is correctly installed, you should see the new panel "Contents" under "General" and "Images" on the left side and "Version 1.0.1" at the bottom right.
