Microsoft Works 4.0 Filter Update

The Microsoft Works 4.0 import filter enables you to place Microsoft Works 4.0 documents in Adobe PageMaker 6.5 for the Macintosh. This updated filter (version 7.2.1, modified February 26, 1997) corrects a problem in which Microsoft Works 4.0 documents do not appear in the PageMaker 6.5 Place Document dialog box when the Microsoft Works 4.0 filter is installed.

Installation Instructions

To install the Microsoft Works 4.0 import filter:
1. Quit PageMaker 6.5.
2. Remove the PM65FILT.CNF file from the RSRC folder in the PageMaker 6.5 folder.
3. Copy the updated W4W058.F filter file into the Filters folder in the RSRC folder in the PageMaker 6.5 folder. If you receive a message prompting you to replace an existing W4W058.F file, click OK to replace it.
4. Restart PageMaker.

Additional notes

To ensure the Microsoft Works 4.0 import filter is installed:
In PageMaker, hold down the Command key and choose About PageMaker from the Apple menu to view the list of installed components. In the Installed Import Filters section, PageMaker lists the filter, "Ver. 1.0 MS Works 4.0 for Macintosh." when the Microsoft Works 4.0 import filter is installed.

If PageMaker does not list the Microsoft Works 4.0 import filter (Ver. 1.0 MS Works 4.0 for Macintosh) as an installed import filter, install the following support files into the Filters folder in the RSRC folder in the PageMaker 6.5 folder:
- AFU Text Import PPC.flt (Power Macintosh) or AFU Text Import.flt (68000-series Macintosh)
- AFUfilt.CFG
- W4W000.F
- W4W058.F (Microsoft Works 4.0 import filter)

To check the modification date and version of the Microsoft Works 4.0 import filter:
In the Finder, select the W4W058.F filter file and then choose File > Get Info. The updated Microsoft Works 4.0 import filter is version 7.2.1 and has a modification date of February 26, 1997.
