Getting started

Before you can create a Flash Button object, first, make sure you have both Flash and the free Generator authoring extensions installed on your system. If you don't have these applications installed, you can download a free trial version of Flash from the Macromedia Web site. The Generator authoring extensions can also be downloaded from this site.

Note: You can install a trial version of Generator from this Web site as well, but only the authoring extensions are necessary. The Generator authoring extensions are configured to install as part of the Flash 5 installation on a Windows system. Macintosh users have the option to install them. If you didn't install them initially, you can insert your Flash 5 CD and rerun the Setup program. If you are a Flash 4 user or don't have a CD, go to this Web site to get the extensions.

When the Generator authoring extensions are installed on your system, whether through downloading them from the Web site or through Flash 5Õs automatic install, a Generator 2 application folder is created on your system.

Next, you must copy or download the necessary Insert Text object files to the appropriate folders on your system.

1 Copy the InsertText.def and InsertText.class Generator object files from the Dreamweaver 4 CD's More Extensions/Flash Objects/Generator Text Object folder.
2 Place the InsertText.def file in the generator/template folder found in the Flash application folder.
3 Place the InsertText.class file in the extras folder found in the Generator2 application folder.
