Choose the Pointer tool. |

The Exit Bitmap Mode button is again disabled. Fireworks assumes you want to select or move an object with the Pointer tool, so it automatically switches to the appropriate mode. Unless you have a pixel selection already defined, switching to the Pointer tool will always cause Fireworks to exit bitmap mode. |

Select the vector object on the canvas and move it so that it overlaps the bitmap image, as shown in the following illustration. It doesn't have to be placed precisely; just ensure that it completely covers the text and most of the face.

Choose Edit > Cut. |

The object is copied to the Clipboard. |

Select the bitmap object and choose Edit > Paste as Mask. |

A mask is created from the vector object's path outline. |

Press Control+D (Windows) or Command+D (Macintosh) to deselect the mask on the canvas so that you can get a clear view of it. |

The parts of the bitmap object that fall within the borders of the path are revealed, and those that fall outside the borders of the path are obsured.

Choose Modify > Canvas > Trim Canvas to trim the extra white space around the image. |
