Using the Google web service in Macromedia Flash MX
This tutorial demonstrates how to create a Macromedia Flash MX application that searches the Google index of 2 billion pages, using the Google Web APIs service, and then formats and displays the search results.
The Google Web APIs service is a web service that lets developers integrate Google search functionality into their applications. Web services are web-based applications that are invoked over the Internet.
To complete this tutorial, you will need to have installed Macromedia Flash MX, Macromedia Dreamweaver MX, Macromedia ColdFusion MX, and Macromedia Flash Remoting Components.
To access the Google Web APIs service, you must create a Google Account and obtain a license key, which entitles you to 1,000 queries per day. To do this, visit the Google Web APIs home and follow the instructions shown there.
Because this topic is too long to read easily in a browser, it is available as a downloadable file. By clicking the link below, you'll download a folder named google_search that contains three files: The PDF version of the tutorial, named google_search.pdf; a completed Macromedia Flash document, named search_done.fla; and a completed ColdFusion Component, named googleService.cfc.
Download the Windows source files (212K)
Note: Currently, web services development with Dreamweaver MX is limited to the Windows environment. For this reason, only Windows source files are available for download. For more information see Using Dreamweaver MX.
If you have trouble downloading or decompressing the files, see TechNote 13686.
