About using video in Macromedia Flash MX

There are two paths video can take through Macromedia Flash MX.

In one, video is imported and embedded into a Flash document, just like an imported bitmap. When the Flash document is published as a SWF file, the embedded video clip will play back in Macromedia Flash Player 6 or later.

Think of embedded video as another media type at your disposal when creating a presentation, online advertisement, or application in Macromedia Flash MX.

The other workflow that video can follow involves using Macromedia Flash MX to add Flash content to an existing QuickTime movie (MOV). In this case, you import a QuickTime movie as a linked file, rather than embedding it in the Flash document. You can then add animation or interactivity to the video, which is only viewable when exported from Flash as a QuickTime movie.

Only QuickTime files can be imported as linked files. By default, all other video formats are embedded.
