Publishing Macromedia Flash movies with video

Upon export to SWF, embedded video is inserted as streamed video and audio. The audio track is compressed according to the Audio Stream compression settings you specify in the Flash panel of the Publish Settings dialog box or in the Flash Player Export panel.

Because the sound is compressed upon export, it may take several seconds or longer to publish a SWF that contains embedded video.

Tip: To do a "quick compress," choose Raw from the Compression pop-up menu in the Sound Settings dialog box shown above. This will result in a larger file size (since the sound stream is not being compressed) but will export more quickly. Choose MP3 or other sound compression format when you're ready for a final export.

For information on compressing sounds, see the Compressing sounds for export section of the Using Flash manual.

Exporting with linked QuickTime
As mentioned above, the current version of QuickTime Player will only play Flash Player 4 content. Before publishing the document as a QuickTime movie, choose Flash Player 4 from the Version menu on the Flash tab of the Publish Settings dialog box (File > Publish Settings).

Note: Upon export, Macromedia Flash MX will warn you if your movie contains features unsupported by Flash Player 4.

If you attempt to export a linked QuickTime movie with a Macromedia Flash Player 6 SWF, you will receive an error message. Follow the instructions above to ensure a successful export to MOV.
