Controlling interactive movie clips

The example below uses radio buttons like those in the Flash 4 Widgets sample to show how actions in movie clips can communicate with and control each other.

The radio buttons in this example are based on the radio buttons in the Widgets Sample in Flash 4. This version has been slightly modified to help show what is happening as the movie runs. It displays the values for the important variables stored in the container movie clip and what happens behind the scenes when you click a button. Choose Help > Samples> Widgets to open the Widgets sample to see how the radio buttons are used.

This is an advanced example of Flash actions. It assumes that you already have a sound understanding of symbols, movie clips, and Flash actions. Some experience in programming conventions is also helpful.
