Macromedia License Cleaner

Issue

In rare cases, product activation files (license files) are put into a corrupted state. It is unclear as to what steps cause this to occur, but when it does, it can cause an application to be unable to launch, or it will not allow the application to re-activate properly. To resolve situations like this, removing the damaged license file will allow the product re-activation process to successfully complete resulting in ability to launch the application again.

Reason

When a Macromedia product is launched a check is performed to ensure that a valid license is present for that application. If a license is not found, you will either be allowed to trial the application (if its never been activated) or you will need to activate it (either your trial period has ended or you are in a situation where product re-activation is required such as transferring your license back to switch machines). If your license is damaged somehow during normal machine operations, you can be put into a state where activation or re-activation will be required.

Solution

Download the Macromedia License Cleaner 2004 for your specific platform for Mac or Windows. This license cleaner will allow you to remove the damaged product license files and allow the re-activation process to occur.

Download License Cleaner:

download Download Windows (4.54 MB)

download Download Macintosh (59K)

  1. Unzip the license_cleaner_2004.zip package (Win) or license_cleaner_2004.dmg (Mac) on your machine.
  2. Launch the License Cleaner 2004 application - you should see a selection list of Macromedia products which require product activation.
    • Note: If you do not see the product selection list on the Macintosh, launch the Apple Script Editor application and open the License Cleaner 2004 application from the Open command and run the script. This should present the product selection list for you.
  3. Select the appropriate entry(s) for your Macromedia product with which you are experiencing problems launching with. If you own individual copies of Macromedia products, you will need to select each individual product. If you own a Studio version of Macromedia products, then you should select the correct version of Studio. These options are not interchangeable and do perform different operations so make sure you select the correct product description.
  4. Click the OK button to remove the product license file. By doing this, you will need to re-activate your product the next time you launch. We recommend having your product serial number available so you can enter it.
  5. You should see a message indicating that the license file was successfully removed. Close the License Cleaner application.

To re-activate your product:

  1. Re-launch your Macromedia product. You should see a activation dialog indicating you need to re-activate your product.
  2. Enter your product serial number (if needed) and click the Continue button.
  3. You should see a Activation Successful message. If you receive an error, you should call our Product Activation Support line and speak with a representative. You are allowed a specific number of re-activations - in most cases, you will never run out. But if you have re-activated too many times, you will receive a activation error message which can only be cleared by a Macromedia Activation representative.
