Disclaimer: While this document describes how to use third-party utilities after downloading files, the mention of a third-party vendor or product does not guarantee its compatibility with Adobe products, or constitute an endorsement of any kind by Adobe. The mention of a third-party product does not necessarily mean that it is the only product you can use. If you need assistance with any third-party product, contact that product's manufacturer. Adobe cannot assist you with the use of any third-party software. The contact information in this document is current to the best of our knowledge, but we cannot guarantee its accuracy.

Downloading a file

Because there are hundreds of different software and hardware configurations, we cannot provide basic downloading instructions for your system. If you're unsure how to download a file with your software or hardware, consult the user guide or the manufacturer. Adobe cannot assist you with installing, configuring, or using third-party software or hardware.

To download a file from the Adobe website, visit www.adobe.com , select a file, and download it according to your software or hardware's instructions. For more detailed information about the Adobe online services, see document 316431 , "Introduction to downloading files from the Adobe website."

The Windows files in the Adobe file library are provided in several formats that are widely used in the Windows community for online file distribution. Use the information in the following sections to determine how to open a file after downloading.

Opening .exe and .txt files

To open a .exe or .txt file, double-click the file. Adobe recommends that you move each downloaded .exe (that is, executable) file into its own folder before running it.

Opening PDF files

To view a PDF file, open it in an Acrobat viewer (for example, Adobe Reader). You can view, navigate in, and print PDF files on several platforms with Adobe Reader. Adobe Reader is available for free from all Adobe online services. For more information about Adobe Reader, see document 315823 , "Introduction to Adobe Reader 6.0," or document 330983 , "Introduction to Adobe Reader 7.0."

Acrobat Exchange 3.0x and Acrobat 4.0-7.0 are similar to Adobe Reader in that you can use them to view PDF files, but they include additional features that enable you to enhance PDF files (for example, add sound and video, or insert or delete pages). Acrobat Exchange 3.0x or Acrobat is included in the Adobe Acrobat software package, and is not available free of charge. To purchase Adobe Acrobat, visit the Adobe website at http://store.adobe.com/store/products/department.jhtml?id=deptAcrobatFamily . For pricing and availability inside the United States and Canada call Adobe Customer Services at (800) 833-6687 . Outside the United States and Canada, contact your local Adobe reseller or distributor.

See the Adobe website at www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/ for more information about the Adobe Acrobat products.

Opening .zip Files

After you download a .zip file, you can use the PKZIP or WinZip utility to access the file's contents. For more information about PKZIP, visit the PKWARE website at www.pkware.com/downloads/software/utilities/reader / . For more information about WinZip, visit the WinZip website at www.winzip.com . You can find PKZIP and WinZip online at the locations below. These locations are subject to change.

Note: PKWARE sells PKZIP and SecureZIP, has evaluation copies of both products, and also distributes ZIP Reader by PKWARE, a free utility that opens ZIP and SecureZIP files.
