Install Acrobat 7.0 products and Acrobat 3D using Group Policy (Windows)

What's Covered

Overview

Acrobat 7.0, Adobe Reader, and Acrobat 3D Group Policy deployment scenarios

Using Group Policy to deploy Acrobat 7.0 products

Group Policy is a tool for Active Directory which allows system administrators to centrally manage, set and maintain a desired computing state, such as ensuring all applications across a network are running the same version. Group Policy includes numerous settings, for example, settings for folder redirection, security and software inventory. This document focuses on using Group Policy to deploy Acrobat 7.0 and Acrobat 3D products for Windows.

Overview

You can apply Group Policy settings to Users or to Computers. Group Policy settings for Users are applied after the user logs on. Group Policy settings for computers are applied when Windows starts, and before the user logs in.

You can use Group Policy to deploy software through one of two processes: publishing or assigning. Published software appears in the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, and a user can install the software from there. Assigned software can be assigned to either users or computers:

-- If assigned to a user, the software is installed when the user first logs on.

-- If assigned to a computer, the software is installed when the computer starts, and is available to all users who log on to the computer.

Note: During installation several device drivers are installed to the system. Acrobat 7.0 and Acrobat 3D only support installations assigned to a computer (that is, System installations) and not to a user (that is, User installations).

Acrobat 7.0, Adobe Reader and Acrobat 3D Group Policy deployment scenarios

Adobe Acrobat 7.0 products support the following Group Policy Object deployment scenarios:

-- Assign Acrobat 7.0 Professional, Acrobat 3D, Acrobat 7.0 Standard, Acrobat Elements 7.0, or Reader 7.0 to a computer.

-- Publish Reader 7.0 to a user.
