this page you can download the Director 8.5 XDK and its documentation.
The Director 8.5 XDK is available in two different versions:
a Windows version and a Macintosh
version (which contains utilities and libs for both OSX
and Classic).
Please note that Macromedia Technical Support does not
provide technical support for Xtras development.
The Director 8.5 Xtra Development Kit (XDK) provides resources
for developing extensions to Macromedia Director 8.5 Shockwave
Studio, including the Sprite Xtra, Transition Xtra, Scripting
Xtra, and Tool Xtra extensions. Documentation files in HTML
format, and a complete list of updates since the previous
XDK, are provided as part of this release. You can also
develop Xtra extensions for version of Director 8.5 Shockwave
Studio and the Shockwave 8.5 Player running on Macintosh
OS X with this software kit. Note that this XDK does not
yet document any interfaces used for the 3D features introduced
with Director 8.5 Shockwave Studio, other than the vector/value
interface that manages vector values.

Extract the zip archive using the -d option of
pkunzip to preserve the directory structure of the archive
file. Download the PKZIP/PKUNZIP

self-extracting archive contains the Macintosh version of
the Director 8.5 XDK and the updated documentation. This
file includes:
