I create new creative tools and contexts by refining accepted metaphors and exploiting modern interface hardware. My interests range widely, from painting systems and perception to programming languages and presentation tools. However, my projects are generally guided by the same three principles: people are creative, ambiguity is powerful, and intuition is essential.
I earned my PhD in 2010 at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA where I was advised by Nancy Pollard. While there I worked on various projects, falling under the loose umbrella of perception-motivated artistic tools. As an undergraduate, I studied Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI.
