Apply the Reduce Noise filter.

You can apply the filter to the entire photo, or just a part of the photo that’s noisy. To apply a filter to a portion of a photo, use any selection tool to select an area. Then, choose Filter > Noise > Reduce Noise.

In the Reduce Noise dialog box, there are three sliders you can drag to control the effect. The Strength slider sets how much the filter affects the photo. A setting that’s too high could take detail out of the photo. The Preserve Details slider gives you control over how soft or grainy you’d like the photo to be. The Reduce Color Noise slider is important when you have stray colored pixels in an area that should be black or white. If your photo doesn’t have this problem, the default setting is fine. When you’re happy with the photo, click OK.

Tip: If you’ve made changes to the default values and you’d like to return to them, hold down the Alt key until the Cancel button turns into a Reset button. Click Reset to return the original settings.

Fix any color problems in the photo.

Once the noise is removed from the photo, you can fix any other color problems. The quickest way is to use the fixes in the Quick Fix workspace. Click Quick Fix at the top right corner. Then try using Smart Fix to take care of color and contrast problems. If a person has red eyes in the photo, click in the red area with the Red Eye Removal tool.

Now that you’ve fixed your photo, be sure to save your work by choosing File > Save.

With the Reduce Noise filter, you can share the photos you take on your camera phone knowing that they look great.
