Excavator "The process of making these pieces is like foraging," Tom remarks. "It's like finding a piece of something and recognising something in it - like you find stones at the seaside and go "oh, this one looks like a telephone," or "this one looks like an African love goddess". When you make a map, you think about planning out all the key points. The idea behind Excavator was to plan a series of stances and show how in combination they offered a certain set point of view." |

Excavator is an ongoing work, put together using Illustrator and Photoshop. "In digital media, where you're looking at something that's effectively a constant flutter of quantum particles buzzing around, you reach a point of looking at the future as a state which can lie equally in the past," Tom says. "So the Excavator is an archaeologist of the future, examining structural paradigms to understand how matter can be woven together." |
