Amy Guip
Guip created this image to illustrate a column called Web Adventure for Sony Style magazine. "I wanted the feel of energy going from the woman's fingers to her head," she says.

The woman's arms touch a keyboard that sat on a Plexiglas table and was illuminated from below. Guip created the woman's "hair" from a circa-'70s glowing filament lamp; she stripped it in later in Photoshop. She also combined separate head and body shots, and ultimately used only one vertical half of her composite, which she mirrored (copied and flipped) to achieve perfect symmetry. "I do that a lot," she says.
