These two illustrations were part of a series called "The Axe Museum" in Guitar World magazine. It was one of Loughran's favourite jobs, not simply because he liked the music involved, but also because he was given a great deal of freedom to interpret the artists as he pleased.

He generated the background colour of the Muddy Waters piece by scanning in old cardboard boxes. Loughran liked the look of corrugated cardboard, and felt it lent the right colours and palette to the drawings. The yellow in the Albert Collins piece came from brushed-on Photoshop colours that were then textured using channels, as shown in the how-to section of this gallery.
