The Elizabeth main title sequence falls squarely in the new wave of desktop motion graphics production. From initial pencil tests to final rendering, the minute-long sequence was produced on a Macintosh G3 using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects software.

The production features a variety of graphic styles, reaching back to the famous sixteenth century royal portraits of King Henry VII and Elizabeth. With the complex layering of elements and iconography as well as the ominously subdued typography, the piece sets an eerie tone for the opening of the film, in which the dying Queen Mary steps up her policy of Protestant repression.
