Questions? We have answers.
What is Color Mode?
Color Mode is a completely new color grading system built inside Premiere. It's not a feature update — it's an application-sized experience with a new interface, controls, a new Operations system for grade management, and dozens of built-in Styles and Modules. It was designed from the ground up for video editors.
Do I need color experience to use Color Mode?
No. Color Mode is designed to teach you as you work. Every control activates a heads-up display with scopes, numeric feedback, and real-time visual guidance. Styles give you professional cinematic looks in one click. If you can edit, you can color.
I’m already a color expert. Is Color Mode for me?
Yes. Color Mode offers deep control over color science, luminance zones, hue isolation, and a nondestructive module architecture that editors with advanced color experience will appreciate. Operations let you manage grades across clips, groups, and sequences with a speed and flexibility that doesn't exist in traditional NLE color tools. The depth is there — it's just not required to get started.
How is Color Mode different from Lumetri?
Color Mode is a new, separate workspace inside Premiere — not an update to Lumetri. It features an entirely new interface, bi-directional animated controls, a heads-up display, grade management through Operations, and a Styles and Modules system.
What happens to my existing Lumetri workflows?
The Lumetri effect is still available in the Premiere (beta) Effects panel, and will continue to be supported for years. Your existing projects and Lumetri grades will look as expected. The Lumetri panel is no longer available in Premiere (beta). You can make changes to new and existing Lumetri effects in the Effects Control panel.
Is Color Mode available on my current plan?
Color Mode is included in the Premiere beta, which is available with any Creative Cloud plan that includes Premiere. There's no additional cost. If you're new to Premiere, you can start with a 7-day free trial.
How do I get the Color Mode beta?
Open the Creative Cloud desktop app and install the latest Premiere beta. Color Mode is available as a new mode inside the beta — switch to it at the top of the app between Edit and Export Mode.
How does Color Mode handle log and RAW footage?
Premiere automatically transforms your log and RAW footage to SDR or HDR using your camera's native color science — no LUTs required. A wide-gamut color pipeline preserves the full color information your sensor captured. Set your color management once and your footage is ready to grade from the first frame. Transform LUTs and creative LUTs are fully supported in Color Mode, and always will be.
Can I use Color Mode for HDR projects?
Yes. Color Mode's color management pipeline supports both SDR and HDR workflows, automatically transforming your footage to the correct output space.
Will Color Mode work with my control surface?
Control surface support is on the roadmap but is not available in the initial beta. We'll share updates on compatibility with Tangent and other control surfaces as development continues.
