“I would tell young female creators to never be afraid or lesser than someone else just because you’re female or have a specific female perspective, because in this line of work, all perspectives are appreciated and needed to create a genuine story.”

Clarisse Chua, Story Artist forLuck

Creating space for women in the film industry is critical to ensuring that the stories on screen reflect the world we live in — of which, women make up half of the population. Adobe is committed to leading the way in empowering creators of all backgrounds with access to the tools, skills, and platforms they need to express themselves, reach their full potential, and to share their unique and diverse perspectives with the world.

We’re proud to be teaming up with the creative minds behind Luck, the first full-length animated feature film from Apple Original Films by Skydance Animation, to celebrate and be inspired by the female creators behind the film.

Our collaboration is aimed at highlighting and amplifying the voices of the women behind the scenes, while inspiring and engaging with the next generation of female artists.

“There are countless incredibly talented, yet undiscovered women in film with stories that must be seen and heard,” said Ann Lewnes, Adobe CMO and EVP, Corporate Strategy & Development. “The message from the creators behind Luck is beautifully focused on the importance of not being afraid to use your voice and knowing you can do anything you set your mind to. Through our ongoing support, mentorship and collaborations, this message is something we hope to instill in emerging female creators for generations to come.”

Hear from the creators of Luck

We’re excited to share a three-part video series that shines a light on four talented women who brought Luck to life, including director, Peggy Holmes, visual development artist, Christine Kim, story artist, Clarisse Chua and director of Animation, Yuriko Senoo.

From their individual journeys as creators, to the importance of female representation in the film industry, each of the women also emphasize how they’ve overcome barriers and created their own luck.

‘Find Your Voice’ Mentorship Program’

We’re also excited to be partnering with Skydance to offer a new mentorship program, ‘Find Your Voice’. Launching October 10, the program will give five emerging female creators the opportunity to learn first-hand from a female mentor and Luck creator to help develop and further their careers in animation and character design. In addition to Peggy Holmes, Yuriko Senoo, and Clarisse Chua, mentors from Luck will include Lourdes Alba, Associate Producer, and Sarah Macdonald, CFX Supervisor.

Who is eligible.

Women pursuing careers in animation as directors, animators, character effects artists, producers, story artists, or other roles. A degree is not required, but some professional experience in animation is preferred. You must be at least 18 years old; reside in the United States, Mexico, or Canada; and be proficient in English. You are ineligible if you work or have worked for Adobe, Apple Inc., or Skydance Animation as an employee, intern, or contractor.

Application requirements.

Applicants will need to provide examples of work, describe their primary interests and skills, and record a short video that tells us where they are in their career and why they’re interested in the mentorship.

This information will be used to help determine if applicants are a good match for one of the mentors.

Mentorship details.

If selected, applicants will be paired with a mentor for two to three one-on-one conversations over Zoom or a similar virtual platform. Each conversation will be 30 minutes long, beginning in January 2023.

Scheduling and frequency will depend on mutual availability between mentors and mentees.

Up to 500 applications will be accepted until October 27, 2022. Adobe will notify the five selected mentees by phone or email by November 21, 2022.

“To wake up every day, and work with writers, and visual artists and story artists and work on a story that’s all about love that has such a big, massive heart and that is so positive...that’s super lucky.”
