Learn more about the requirements for going live on TikTok, plus the easy steps to follow so you can star in your very first livestream.
As a social media content creator, going LIVE on TikTok is full of benefits. It’s the perfect way for you to grow your audience, interact, and engage with your followers in real-time — plus, you can even raise money for favorite charities while you do. When you’re ready to take center stage and hit the Go LIVE button, simply follow these easy steps.
Requirements for going live on TikTok.
Before you get behind the camera, there are two requirements you must meet before using the LIVE capability on TikTok. First, you must be at least 16 years of age — this is determined by your birthdate when you initially create your TikTok profile — and second, you’ll need to have at least 1,000 followers to unlock the capability to go Live.
Steps for going live on TikTok.
If you’re over 16 years old and have 1000+ followers, simply follow these easy steps to hop onto your livestream.
- Open the app and tap the create icon (+) at the bottom of the screen.
- Select LIVE from the menu.
- Once you select LIVE, you’ll be able to see a preview of your video feed. In the preview, you can add a title to your livestream, turn comments on or off, add effects or filters, choose a charity to support, and share your livestream through connected social media platforms or a messaging service.
- When you’re ready, tap Go LIVE to begin streaming your video.
Once you’ve finished with your LIVE event, simply tap the power button on the bottom of the menu screen to end your stream. Unlike a pre-recorded video that you take time to create and edit and post to your TikTok feed afterwards, a livestream will disappear as soon as you’re finished, so enjoy it while you can!
