Acrobat Reader provides several easy ways for you to open files from within the application, but you can also open PDFs from other applications.

Location Chooser

The My Documents view displays all your document locations. Use the Location Chooser to view files in each location. Tap Search icon to find documents by title.

Files on your device

Tap the Local tab to view files on your device. If you don't see the file you need, you can browse to files on your device by tapping the floating action button:

  1. Go to My Documents.
  2. Tap Recent.
  3. Tap the floating action button in the lower right hand corner.
  4. Browse to the needed file.

Email

  1. Open the email with the PDF attachment.
  2. Tap Preview.
  3. When asked how to complete the action, choose Adobe Acrobat.
  4. Tap Always or Just Once.

Chrome (with Drive not installed)

  1. Tap on any search result that is a PDF.
  2. When asked how to complete the action, choose Adobe Acrobat.
  3. Tap Always or Just Once.

Chrome (Drive installed)

When Google Drive is installed, PDFs open in the Drive PDF Viewer by default.
  1. Tap any search result that is PDF.
  2. When the file opens in the Drive PDF viewer, tap Overflow icon.
  3. Tap Open with in the drop down menu.
  4. When asked how to complete the action, choose Adobe Acrobat.
  5. Tap Always or Just Once.

Adobe Document Cloud

The Location Chooser in My Documents view displays all your connected document locations. To view files stored in Adobe's Document Cloud:

  1. Log in to your Adobe account.
  2. Choose My Documents > Document Cloud.
  3. Tap a PDF or tap the Search icon to find a document by its title.

Dropbox

The March, 2016 release introduces Dropbox integration, including features such as: To connect your accounts:
  1. Go to My Documents.
  2. Tap Dropbox > Add Account.
  3. When asked whether to allow the connection, tap Allow.
  4. Tap OK.

Other cloud storage services

Different applications and services may have different workflows.

  1. Open your file sharing service. For example, Google Drive, or OneDrive.
  2. Select a PDF.
    • If the service does not provide a default PDF viewer, you may be asked how to complete the action. Choose Adobe Acrobat.
    • If the PDF opens in the 3rd party app, tap the Open With icon to select Acrobat Reader. See the Dropbox image below for an example.
  3. Tap Always or Just Once.
