I'd argue that audio and video, especially video, made the Flash platform what it is today. It wasn't until the advent of YouTube and viral video that everyone had to have Flash installed on their computers.
 
It's no wonder that YouTube went with Flash because it makes doing multimedia so easy, or does it? Yes, you can play a sound, and yes, you can put up a video display, but if you want all of the playback controls, well, as RuPaul says, "You gotta work!" Of course, in my case, I'd rather let some off-the-shelf components do the work for me.
 
In this chapter, I'll show a set of components that make it very easy to put fully featured audio and video players in your Flex application.
