Judy Durkin embarked on a new adventure to teach Adobe software to Taiwanese students. She teaches Graphic Design, Yearbook, grades 3-8 Digital Literacy, and Video Production at the Nanke Experimental International High School in Tainan City, Taiwan.
Formerly an award-winning freelance graphic designer, she realized how much she enjoyed training her teenage employees and decided to become a high school teacher. While continuing to freelance on the side, she taught Art, Graphic Design, and Yearbook at Washington High School in Tacoma, Washington for ten years. She earned a Career & Technical Certification, a Masters in Teaching, and National Board Certification. She was also the Franklin Pierce School District Chair for Visual Arts and served on the board of directors for the Washington Arts Education Association.
She weaves reading and writing into every lesson, using websites, interactive Acrobat forms, Captivate, and Catalyst to deliver a paperless and visually rich way to reach students. She is passionate about using technology to transform education. She also uses Adobe software to create self-paced, divergent projects that enforce her message that effective visual communication requires endless exploration, experimentation, and study.
Durkin earned a Bachelor of Arts in Art History/History at Colorado College (Phi Beta Kappa) and attended Art Center College of Design.
