Essentials for photo editing and retouching

Edit your photos anywhere with the editing and image enhancement possibilities in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.

Lightroom’s intuitive editing tools let you improve the light and color in an image, remove haze, fine-tune texture and detail, and adjust a specific area with selective edits. When you edit your photos in Lightroom on your desktop or mobile device, you’ll be able to access the latest version of your images across all your devices.

Take advantage of presets

Experiment with presets to apply filter-like effects to your photos. You can preview the effects that different presets will have on your photo by hovering over the preset names. Then, apply a favorite preset with one click.

Adjust the light in the photo

The Light panel in Lightroom gives you full control over the quality of the light in a photo. There are sliders that adjust the overall brightness of the exposure and refine the contrast, as well as sliders that target only the shadows and highlights in an image.

Enhance color

The controls in the Color panel in Lightroom help you correct common color problems. Use the white balance controls, including the Temp and Tint sliders, to neutralize unwanted color casts and make the colors look more realistic. If the colors in a photo look dull, make them more intense with the Vibrance or Saturation sliders. Use Vibrance for a more subtle approach, which is better for skin tones. Saturation is best when you want the colors to really pop.

Fine-tune texture and details

Use the Effects and Detail panels to enhance the dramatic impact of a photo. The Texture and Clarity sliders can modify the appearance of texture details and edge definition in an image. The haziness in a landscape photo can be reduced with the Dehaze slider. Follow up with the Sharpening slider for a finishing touch.

Retouch and apply selective edits

You can remove dust spots and small distractions in a photo with Lightroom’s Healing Brush tool.

You also can edit parts of an image by applying selective edits with the Brush, Linear Gradient, and Radial Gradient tools. For example, you may want to enhance just the sky in a landscape photo or brighten only the subject’s face in a portrait.
