When will the new CC apps and Creative Cloud features announced May 2013 be available?

The new CC apps, such as Photoshop CC and Illustrator CC, and Creative Cloud features, such as Sync Settings, desktop notifications, integration with Behance, and desktop notifications, will be available exclusively to Creative Cloud members in June.

For more information see www.adobe.com/creativecloud.

What is Adobe® Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition?

Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition tightly integrates with Adobe InDesign® CC software, letting you leverage your existing InDesign skills to create rich, interactive apps for the iPad.

Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition is available as a standalone service that allows you to create and distribute one single-edition app for the iPad. It's also available as part of a complete Adobe Creative Cloud™ membership. When you get it as part of Creative Cloud, you can design, distribute, and update an unlimited number of iPad applications as long as your membership remains active.

Is InDesign required to use Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition?

Yes, InDesign CS5, CS5.5, CS6, or CC is required to access Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition services. InDesign integrates with Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition to provide an end-to-end publishing workflow. InDesign is the authoring tool required to build a .folio file; the .folio is then bundled as an app in Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition. The app must then be submitted to the Apple App store.

What are the DPS Desktop Tools in InDesign CC, and how do they work with Digital Publishing Suite?

The DPS Desktop Tools available in InDesign CC include the Folio Overlays panel, Folio Builder panel, and Content Viewer for Desktop, which allow you to create and preview interactive digital content with engaging elements such as 360-degree object rotation and image panoramas. InDesign CC integrates with Digital Publishing Suite, letting you move directly from InDesign to the DPS App Builder.

How do I install the Digital Publishing Suite components that I need to design and build my app?

Just install InDesign, run the updater (choose Help > Updates), and you will be ready to go.

Do I need a Mac operating system to build and publish a .folio app to the Apple App Store?

While you can use a Mac or a PC to create a .folio in InDesign, a Mac is required to access the DPS App Builder, as currently this is a Mac-only application. A Mac is also required by Apple to submit an app to the Apple App Store.

Is it possible to create publications for Android™ tablets with Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition?

No. Single Edition is only for iPad devices. However, Professional Edition and Enterprise Edition allow publication to the Android platform as well. Those two editions include Content Viewer for iPad, Content Viewer for Android, and Content Viewer for Desktop, so you can create content for iPad and all Android based tablets.

What's the process to submit my app to the Apple App Store?

Download and read the Step-by-Step Guide to Publishing iPad Apps with Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition for guidance on how to submit your app to Apple.

Who should use Digital Publishing Suite?

Digital Publishing Suite provides small to midsize design studios and freelance designers a way to design rich, engaging, interactive iPad apps using familiar InDesign skills, without writing code.

Where can I see examples of tablet publications that have been created with Digital Publishing Suite?

Visit the Digital Publishing Gallery to view a gallery of publications created using Digital Publishing Suite, including content created with Single Edition, Professional Edition, and Enterprise Edition.

How much does Single Edition cost?

Creative Cloud members can design, prepare, and package an unlimited number of apps to submit to the Apple App Store at no additional charge. (Creative Cloud membership does not include the annual fee for the Apple Developer Program.)

Single Edition is available on Adobe.com for a one-time cost of US$395. This edition lets you publish one app to the Apple App Store.

This pricing reflects Adobe's direct pricing for the U.S. Prices in other geographies may differ. For more details on pricing, see the buying guide.

Is education pricing available for Single Edition?

There is an education discount for Creative Cloud membership. However, at this time there is no education discount available for Single Edition standalone customers.

I am not a Creative Cloud member, and I received a serial number when I placed my Single Edition order. How do I redeem it?

When you are ready to publish your single-issue app to the Apple App Store, you will access the DPS App Builder to build your app. You will be required to enter your serial number in the DPS App Builder before you can submit your final app to the App Store for approval.

Can I publish on behalf of a customer or third party?

Yes. If you are a freelance designer and want to publish on behalf of a client, you can do that. Simply make sure you have the appropriate Apple Developer credentials (you do not need to be a developer to get these but may be subject to Apple's terms and conditions) and a Single Edition serial number or active Creative Cloud membership.

I have Single Edition. Can I update the content in my app?

Yes, you can update the content in your app after it has been submitted to and approved by Apple. If you are a Creative Cloud member, you can update the app for as long as you have an active membership. If you purchased a Single Edition serial number for US$395, you have one year to update the content, after which your Single Edition license will expire and you will no longer be able to rebuild your app.

When will DPS App Builder for Windows® be available?

Currently DPS App Builder is available only as a Mac OS application, which means that in order for Single Edition customers to submit an app to the Apple App Store, they need access to a Mac. To learn when DPS App Builder is available for Windows, check the Digital Publishing Suite system requirements.

Are there additional costs associated with creating Single Edition apps?

Yes. In order to submit an app to the Apple App Store, you must register as an Apple Developer and pay the US$99 annual fee.

Are there differences between the Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition standalone and Creative Cloud versions?

Creative Cloud members can design, prepare, and package an unlimited number of apps to submit to the Apple App Store at no additional charge. (Creative Cloud membership does not include the annual fee for the Apple Developer Program.) Creative Cloud members can also update a Single Edition app after it has been submitted to and approved by the Apple App Store for as long as they are active members.

Single Edition is also available on Adobe.com for a one-time cost of US$395. This edition allows you to publish one app to the Apple App Store and is compatible with InDesign CS5, CS5.5, CS6, and CC. Standalone Single Edition customers can update a Single Edition app after it has been submitted to and approved by the Apple App Store for one year after the purchase of the Single Edition license.

I purchased a Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition license for US$395 — do I need to upgrade to Creative Cloud?

If you are using Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition then you most likely have a relatively current version of InDesign, making you eligible for the US$29.99 Creative Cloud offer for existing customers. However, you can use your Single Edition license with InDesign CS5, CS5.5, CS6, or CC; you do not need to be a Creative Cloud member to use the standalone version of Single Edition. Remember though, that with the standalone version you are limited to creating only one single-edition app, and you can make updates to your app only within the first year of initial distribution.

I purchased a Single Edition serial number for US$395 and my app was rejected by the Apple App Store. Can I get a refund?

Once you have purchased your Single Edition serial number and redeemed it by submitting an app to the App Store, we cannot provide a refund. However, in the event that your app is rejected, you will have the opportunity to make changes to your application and resubmit it. Note that you will need to resubmit your app within one year of the original purchase date of the serial number.

What options are available for purchasing Digital Publishing Suite?

Digital Publishing Suite is available in three editions: Single Edition for small design studios and freelance designers, Professional Edition for midsize publishers and businesses, and Enterprise Edition for large, global organizations.

  • Single Edition lets freelance designers and small design firms create and publish a single-.folio application to the iPad. With Single Edition, the content is included in the application as a single download from the Apple App Store. It is not necessary to purchase additional .folio file downloads, as the .folio file is included directly in the application. Important information before using Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition
What are the important things to know about delivering designs to the iPad?

Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition streamlines the process to deliver your designs to the iPad. Complete the following then start building your first app.

  • Create or verify your Apple ID.
  • Register as an Apple Developer and pay the $99 annual fee.
  • Download and read the Step-by-Step Guide to Publishing iPad Apps with Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition.
  • Use DPS App Builder to submit your final app to the Apple App Store (Mac OS required).
  • Install the Digital Publishing Suite Desktop Tools update in InDesign.

How can I preview my content on the iPad?

Previewing content on your iPad is done through Adobe Content Viewer. First, you need to install it:

  • If you have previously downloaded Adobe Content Viewer, remove the previous version from your iPad or iPhone and from iTunes, and then sync your device.
  • On your device, download Adobe Content Viewer from the App Store.
  • Sync your device so that the Adobe Content Viewer app is added to iTunes.

There are two ways to preview your content on the iPad device.

The quickest way is to:

  • Connect your iPad to your Mac computer.
  • On your iPad, start Adobe Content Viewer. It isn’t necessary to sign in.
  • To preview a folio, in the Folio Builder panel in InDesign, select the folio you want to preview, and then choose Preview on [device name] from the Preview menu at the bottom of the panel. The previewed folio is copied from your computer to your device. The folio remains on your device when you disconnect it. When you archive the folio, it’s removed from the library.
  • To preview only the current layout, open the Folio Overlays panel and choose Preview on [device name] from the Preview menu at the bottom of the panel. The previewed layout remains on your device when you disconnect it. When you return to the library, the previewed layout is removed. Previewing on Device from the Folio Overlays panel displays only the pages of the current layout. Alternate layouts in InDesign CS6 are not included in the preview.

The alternative is as follows:

The Adobe Content Viewer library checks that the Folio Builder server contains all folios that appear in your Folio Builder panel.

  • Start Adobe Content Viewer on the iPad, and sign in using the same Adobe ID you use to sign in to the Folio Builder panel.
  • The folios to which you have access are available for downloading and previewing.
