What you’ll learn

Open an Illustrator file in InDesign

With one important setting enabled in Illustrator, you can open an Illustrator document directly in InDesign — no rebuilding required. Text and vector graphics come in as editable elements you can work with right away.

Edit and restyle your design

Click into any text frame to edit copy, adjust vector colors using your swatch panel, and apply paragraph styles. You're refining an existing design, not reconstructing it.

Continue building and export

Once your Illustrator artwork is in InDesign, you can add new elements and expand the layout — then export for print or digital without ever rebuilding your design from scratch.
