In July, Adobe launched the totally reimagined Adobe Express for Education with a new multimedia editor, generative AI creative features, and so much more.

Now, we’re excited to announce the release of new drawing features that will help K–12 educators unleash student creativity like never before.

And best of all, there’s no prep needed. An educator can simply come up with a prompt for their class and let students take it from there. No need to stock the classroom with art supplies — Adobe Express has things covered with charcoals, watercolors, pencils, and more.

Here are the top 5 ways educators can use the drawing features in their classrooms:

1. Boost student engagement.

Students can paint like Picasso with more than 50 digital brushes. They can create with any color, or use exclusive Multicolor brushes to create with any combination of colors. (Ever paint with a rainbow? Now you can!) Students will also find decorative brushes to take their artwork to the next level with stars, foliage, patterns, hearts, and more.

2. Amplify student voices.

Drawing in Adobe Express fosters creativity and helps students take ownership of their assignments. They’ll enjoy showing what they know and demonstrating their unique points of view in a new creative medium with over 100 education-focused Drawing worksheets to jump-start classroom learning.

3. Teach critical communication skills.

Verbal and written communication are key soft skills, but the ability to visualize information and ideas is essential, too. Whether they’re drawing historical maps or natural ecosystems, or they’re painting alternate covers for their favorite works of literature, students will learn to convey information in clear, visual ways.

4. Engage students in complex themes and ideas.

Not only can students communicate their knowledge and ideas through drawing, but drawing can also help them understand complex information. By drawing on top or painting inside the lines of the included education templates, students will have an easier time grasping concepts in math, science, social studies, and more.

5. Help students make their thinking visible.

When students need to sketch out an idea for a story plot or map out a chemical reaction, Adobe Express drawing tools can help them ideate, refine, and get to the final idea faster.

How to access drawing features in Adobe Express

Adobe believes in creativity for all, which is why the new drawing tools were designed for the web on Chromebooks, the most popular student device. No stylus or touchscreen needed to create a masterpiece.

There are a number of ways to access the new drawing features in Adobe Express. Log in and type “Drawing” in the Plus sign menu or click Drawing and fun under the Education category. You can also click the Document category where you’ll find Drawing and Drawing worksheet tasks under Popular and Education.

The Adobe for Education team will be hosting a community drawing challenge for educators starting October 10. Take the challenge, see what you can create, and share the results with your peers. Try it now!
