Preparing the host server

Before deploying your application files, you should prepare the host server to receive them.

First, create a folder on the server to act as your application's root folder. Make sure the folder is published in the sense that the server can serve up any page in the folder in response to an HTTP request.

Second, make sure an appropriate application server is running on the host server. For example, if you plan to deploy ColdFusion files on a server, then Macromedia ColdFusion Server needs to be running on that server. Other application servers include Macromedia JRun Server (JSP), IBM WebSphere (JSP), Jarkata Tomcat (JSP), and Microsoft Internet Information Server (which doubles as an ASP application server).

After preparing the host server, you're ready to deploy the application files, as discussed in the next section.
