In Adobe's Free eBooks area, you can download, unlock, and read electronic books on your personal computer or reading device. These eBooks, created in Adobe® Portable Document Format (PDF), include a variety of excerpts and complete works from well-known and new authors alike. The eBooks are easily viewable with the free Adobe Acrobat® Reader® 4.05 with Web Buy. (Please note that these eBooks cannot be viewed by version 4.0 or earlier of the Acrobat Reader.) How it works
The process is simple:
- If you haven't already done so, download Adobe Acrobat Reader (version 4.05 or later, English only) with Web Buy for Macintosh or Windows.
- Select and download your reading material by clicking one of the book covers or links on the next page. You'll be asked where you'd like to save the eBook.
- After saving the eBook to your hard disk, follow the online instructions. Click the Go Online button when prompted you won't have to pay for these sample eBooks.
- The reading voucher will be downloaded to your system and the eBook will open automatically.
Why Adobe PDF for eBooks? Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files view and print exactly as the creator intended with fonts, images, and formatting intact. Virtually anyone, anywhere can read PDF-based eBooks using the free Adobe Acrobat Reader, since more than 150 million copies have been downloaded or preloaded onto PCs. With the introduction of Adobe PDF Merchant and Web Buy, publishers can finally distribute their eBooks securely. PDF Merchant lets publishers encrypt Adobe PDF files, while Web Buy a technology built into Adobe Acrobat and Acrobat Reader 4.05 enables customers to purchase and unlock the content.
