Adobe ADEPT

Adobe Content Server

Adobe® ADEPT (Adobe Digital Experience Protection Technology) is a convenient hosted service solution for protecting premium digital content against unauthorized use, via Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology. ADEPT is fully compatible with Adobe Content Server DRM technology, and supports both purchase and lending transactions. Adobe Content Server protected publications are being distributed by hundreds of content retailers and institutions as well as thousands of public libraries around the world.

ADEPT DRM technology is seamlessly integrated with Adobe Digital Editions, Adobe's new Rich Internet Application expressly designed for reading and managing digital publications.

Adobe Digital Editions is a lightweight Flash-based solution, with native support for both PDF and reflow-centric XML-based publications based on the IDPF OPS standard (EPUB). Digital Editions can even be installed on-demand during content download, as demonstrated in our Sample eBook Library. Digital Editions is integrated with Adobe Acrobat and Reader 8 but does not require either product to be installed.

NOTE: Adobe Content Server 3 is no longer distributed by Adobe as a standalone server product. Content distributors are encouraged to migrate to ADEPT. Additionally, a number of Adobe Partners, including service providers and content aggregators, offer ADEPT / Content Server protection as part of their hosted service offerings. View complete ADEPT/Content Server partners list. Content Server customers can continue to distribute content with the digital rights management functionality found in Adobe Acrobat® 6.0x and Adobe Acrobat 7.0 and Adobe Reader 7.0 software, as well as the new Adobe Digital Editions solution that is integrated with Adobe Acrobat and Reader 8.0 software. The Digital Rights Management activator service will be maintained through December 31, 2008 (two years longer than previously communicated). However, after December 31, 2007 only Digital Editions will be the only officially-supported client software, both for ADEPT and any remaining standalone Adobe Content Server installa ions. Content Server support is also limited to PDF only; ADEPT is required for EPUB support.
