Frequently asked questions.

Lightroom is the cloud-based photo editing tool that works across desktop, mobile and web. Lightroom Classic is the desktop-focused digital photography product.

Lightroom Classic shops images on local drives and devices, while Lightroom saves your work to the cloud. To take advantage of cloud storage, a range of purchase options are available.

Aside from this key difference, you can expect the same intuitive features from both Lightroom and Lightroom Classic.

Both Lightroom and Photoshop deliver seamless image-editing functionality. Photoshop is the more powerful option with a fuller editing feature-set, while Lightroom is a digital studio that combines comprehensive image management with basic photo-editing tools.

Which works better for you depends on your creative discipline:

Lightroom is better suited to photographers who capture lots of images and could use a tool to stay organised.

Photoshop works best for graphic designers, illustrators and photo editors.

Plans start at £9.98/mo. Purchase Lightroom on its own or as part of the Creative Cloud Photography plan to get more from your subscription.

Purchase Lightroom at £9.98/mo and get 1 TB of cloud storage to organise, store and share your photos from anywhere. Or get the Photography plan to add Lightroom Classic, Photoshop on desktop and iPad and 20 GB of cloud storage.

Yes, you can enjoy the full version of Lightroom with a 7-day free trial. Edit, share and organise your photos across any device - you can download the free trial on your smartphone, iPad and on the web.

Your free trial starts when you checkout and lasts for seven days. The trial will automatically convert to a paid Creative Cloud membership when the seven-day trial is complete unless you cancel before then.

You can use existing presets on Lightroom to change the look and feel of your images. Create your own presets from scratch or adjust the editing controls of other presets to achieve your desired look.

Choose ‘Make a Copy’ from the Edit menu to save more than one version of a photo with different presets. This creates an additional copy of the photo in your library.

As of 01 August2018, it’s not possible to upload photos to Facebook or Instagram from Lightroom desktop apps.

Instead, export photos from Lightroom to Instagram using the Share option on mobile or desktop. Choose from a range of preset options to quickly export your photos as the right size and resolution for uploading to Instagram. For Instagram-worthy images on the result feed, you’ll need a resolution of 1080 x 1080 and an aspect ratio of 1:1.

Lightroom system requirements

View the minimum and recommended system requirements for running Lightroom on Windows, Mac and mobile.

You’ll also be able to view the language versions available for Lightroom in its desktop and mobile versions.

Although you can use Lightroom off-line, you will need to connect to the Internet every 30 days (for month-to-month members) or 99 days (for annual members) to verify your active subscription.

Lightroom is available with 40 presets right from the start, allowing you to create and customise your images - without limits.

What’s more, you can use what’s on offer as a launching point to create your very own photo adjustments. Save and export your presets to share some inspiration with others. Track down other presets online from the photographer community, offered for a fee or for free.
