How do I edit web pages?

To begin editing your site, you must first receive an invitation from an InContext Editing administrator such as your web developer. After you receive and accept an e-mail invitation, you can begin editing your pages by directing your web browser to the pages you wish to edit and using the login controls. You will then be prompted to log in to the InContext Editing service. After you are logged in, you can click on any part of the site. If the region you click on is editable, you will see the editing options menu bar appear directly over that region.

Note: Pages must be enabled for InContext Editing before they can be edited using the InContext Editing service.

How do I set up InContext Editing for my site?

Web professionals can enable InContext Editing for their site directly within Dreamweaver CS4 or from a browser. Visit the Adobe InContext Editing Administration panel to set up InContext Editing.

How do I create editable pages from my browser?

Once your site has been registered through the Adobe InContext Editing Administration panel, go directly to the page you want to configure with your web browser and use the login controls. You will then be prompted to log in to the InContext Editing service. After you are logged in, you will see an option to define editable regions. The InContext Editing service will automatically detect areas of the page that can be configured as editable.

What is the difference between using Dreamweaver and using a web browser to create editable regions?

The basic functionality of creating editable regions is available in the browser interface. This is intended for fast setup, without the same granular controls that are available in Dreamweaver CS4 (such as limiting font styles or undoing an editable region).

How do I access the InContext Editing service?

Administrators access InContext Editing through the Adobe InContext Editing Administration panel. Content editors and publishers access InContext Editing directly from the web page they wish to edit. Simply direct your web browser to the page requiring edits and log in to InContext Editing.

Note: Pages must be enabled for InContext Editing before they can be edited using the InContext Editing service.

Does InContext Editing work with dynamic web pages?

InContext Editing can edit static HTML on virtually any web page. However, InContext Editing does not currently support server-side programming languages such as CFM, ASP, JSP, and PHP.

Can I use InContext Editing for a nonpublic website/IP address?

The InContext Editing service is not accessible on nonpublic IP addresses. If you are not sure if you have a public IP address, consult your network administrator.

Do I have to have Dreamweaver to use InContext Editing?

No. In addition to using Dreamweaver CS4, you can also create editable regions from your browser. However, Dreamweaver CS4 is recommended in order to benefit from the full configuration capabilities of InContext Editing.

How does InContext Editing work with Dreamweaver templates?

InContext Editing edits pages built using Dreamweaver templates. When registering a site or creating editable regions on web pages using the InContext Editing service, web designers and developers follow a set of coding standards that prevent nontechnical contributors from damaging the template structure when they edit page content. More information about how to integrate InContext Editing with Dreamweaver templates can be found on the support page. Note: InContext Editing enabled pages cannot be edited with Adobe Contribute.

Does InContext Editing generate valid HTML code?

The InContext Editing hosted service creates standards-compliant HTML code when updating web pages in the browser.
