Vectorillustraties in Illustrator kunnen een lijn (rand) hebben en een vulling. De vulling of lijn kan een kleur, verloop of patroon zijn.
Vind de vulkleur en lijnkleur in het deelvenster Eigenschappen rechts van het document. Door te klikken op de vulkleur of lijnkleur worden kleuren weergegeven die standaard zijn opgeslagen in een document, stalen genoemd.
Open de Kleurkiezer door te dubbelklikken op het lijnvak of vullingvak onder aan het deelvenster Gereedschappen aan de linkerkant. Kies de Kleurkiezer om een aangepaste kleur te maken. Dit kun je op het oog doen, maar je kunt ook kleurwaarden invoeren of kleuren uit een kleurenbibliotheek kiezen.

Kleurenstalen maken

Sla aangepaste kleuren als stalen op door in het deelvenster Eigenschappen rechts van het document op de vulkleur of lijnkleur te klikken en de optie Stalen te selecteren om de stalen in het document weer te geven.
Klik op de knop Nieuwe staal onder aan het deelvenster dat wordt weergegeven.
Geef de kleur een naam en stel opties in. Klik op OK om de kleur op te slaan als een staal.
Pas de nieuwe staal toe door artwork te selecteren en op de vulkleur of lijnkleur in het deelvenster Eigenschappen te klikken, de optie Stalen te selecteren en de staal te selecteren.

Onderbroken lijnen en pijlen toevoegen

Selecteer een pad of vorm met het gereedschap Selectie in het deelvenster Gereedschappen. Klik op de optie Lijn in het deelvenster Eigenschappen rechts van het document.
In het deelvenster Lijn kun je de lijn uitlijnen op het pad met uitlijnopties, de optie Onderbroken lijn selecteren om een streepje toe te passen, opties voor streepjes instellen, een pijlpunt selecteren voor het begin en/of eind van een pad, en opties voor afmetingen instellen.

Verlopen vloeien over van een kleur naar een andere kleur.
Pas een standaardverloop toe op de vulling of lijn van het artwork door in het deelvenster Eigenschappen rechts van het document op de vulkleur of lijnkleur te klikken en een opgeslagen staal te selecteren. Klik op Verloopopties om het deelvenster Verloop te openen.
Selecteer in het deelvenster Verloop de vulkleur. Dubbelklik op kleurstops in de kleurenschijf om deze te bewerken.
Selecteer het gereedschap Verloop in het deelvenster Gereedschappen. Sleep over het artwork met een verloopvulling om de lengte, richting en duur van een verloop te wijzigen.

De kleur van artwork wijzigen

Kleur artwork opnieuw via het dialoogvenster Artwork opnieuw kleuren.
Selecteer het artwork dat je opnieuw wilt kleuren.
Klik op de knop Opnieuw kleuren in het deelvenster Eigenschappen rechts, om het dialoogvenster Artwork opnieuw kleuren te openen. De kleuren van het geselecteerde artwork worden weergegeven op een kleurenwiel.
Sleep één kleurgreep in het kleurenwiel om ze allemaal te bewerken. Klik op de knop Harmoniekleuren ontkoppelen om de kleuren te ontkoppelen en afzonderlijk te bewerken.
Kies uit het menu Kleurenbibliotheek kleurgroepen, documentstalen of vooraf ingestelde kleurthema's om artwork opnieuw te kleuren.
Klik op de knop Kleurthemakiezer en klik op zowel vector- als rasterobjecten op het canvas om een kleurmonster te nemen en de kleur toe te passen. Sleep een selectie over vectorartwork om een kleurmonster van specifieke kleuren te nemen.
Pas in het gedeelte Prominente kleuren van het dialoogvenster Opnieuw kleuren het gewicht van een kleur in je illustratie aan door de greep tussen kleuren te slepen.
Om alle kleuren in het deelvenster Stalen op te slaan, klik je op het mappictogram onder aan het dialoogvenster. Kies Alle kleuren opslaan, of kies Prominente kleuren opslaan om alleen de kleuren op te slaan die in het gedeelte Prominente kleuren worden weergegeven.
