Learn how to add modern transitions between your clips to enhance your story.
Apply and adjust default transitions
The default transition, a Cross Dissolve, fades one clip out as the next clip fades in. You can adjust the duration and timing directly in the timeline.
Identify clips without enough frames
Some transitions need extra frames to blend clips smoothly. If a clip doesn’t have them, Premiere marks it with a white flag. In that case, the software will freeze certain frames to complete the transition.
Add Film Impacts transitions for a modern look
The Film Impacts transitions are available in the Effects panel, and in the Film Impacts dashboard under Window > Extensions. Use the Surprise Me! button to explore different configurations.
Use Generative Extend to add more frames
If your clip is too short and doesn’t have enough handle for a transition, use Generative Extend to create more frames.
