For us food photography is much more than taking a single picture.
Photography always was a way to communicate.
That’s how we met.
Food photography combines both our strongest passions, photography and eating.
It starts with choosing the right pottery and props.
We want the backdrops in colors with less saturation, so the color of the food is popping out.
We are shooting all our pictures with natural light.
Sometimes we use a bit of water to give them a better gloss, but nothing else.
Our goal is to inspire people.
All this is what Krautkopf is about.
We always struggle when it comes to explaining our style of photography.
We follow our instincts.
For us it’s important to get that film look in the photos.
Shape and color and texture.
In the end it’s not important which medium you use, it’s what you’re feeling while you’re shooting the photo.
The first time we used Lightroom Mobile, we realized that we can use our own preset.
Even our mobile photos now have the Krautkopf look.
We worked at our apartment in Berlin for the last years, but we decided to buy a house in the countryside.
The light inside this house is totally different, the size of the window or the size of the room, or the color of the walls affects the final photo.
We try not to over-decorate a dish.
Most of the time Yannic is doing the food styling and I’m creating the setting and then shooting the final dish.
I think we need each other for being creative.
It’s about the both of us, not only a single person.
We plant our own vegetables.
We are growing pumpkins without knowing what to do with them.
The whole process gives us ideas.
Sometimes a tomato is a bit too vivid in color.
You can select the red color of the tomato and add more orange for example.
We always keep the white balance a bit colder because food looks so much fresher, when you have that colder tones.
We had an idea to cook a whole pumpkin on fire.
Every single detail counts.
There is this wonderful orange pumpkin meat inside and you just want to put it on the slices of bread.
Our idea was to show these autumnal rustic mood with the colors and all the textures.
We try to arrange a setting that looks beautiful without anything, just try to imitate what nature is doing.
We’re just using that one bulb of light.
That big sun.
