Summary

Looking to give your pre-loved clothes a second lease of life? Vinted is a second-hand shopping platform that was founded in 2008 with the aim of making the clothing industry a little greener. By helping you buy and sell clothes you no longer need, Vinted aims to extend the lifecycles of items new and old.

Today, the app continues to be one of the most popular places to sell second-hand clothes, jewellery, books and more, with over 16 million users worldwide. So, how can you get involved and start selling your own pre-loved items?

In this guide, we’ll show you how to sell on Vinted in eight simple steps. We’ll also provide some useful tips on how Adobe Express can help you craft your own listings to build a successful side hustle.

1. Set up your Vinted profile.

The first step to creating your online shop on Vinted is signing up and building your profile. To do this, you need to:

  1. Download the Vinted app. You can do this from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Sign up using your details. This includes an email address and username.
  3. Verify your account. Vinted needs you to do this to show you’re a real person.
  4. Update your profile. This includes writing a short bio and uploading a profile picture.
  5. Update your shipping options. This doesn’t need to be done right now, but it’s a good idea to select the postal services you can offer to potential buyers.

2. Choose your items to sell.

Next, it’s time for the exciting bit – The Big Clearout. Finally, you have an excuse to gut your wardrobe of anything that doesn’t fit you, or you simply don’t want or need anymore. Remember what Marie Kondo said – if it doesn’t ‘spark joy’ then perhaps it’s time to say goodbye.

What can you sell on Vinted?

You can sell a variety of clothes, accessories and even furniture on Vinted. Some of the things you can sell include:

Take a look at the Vinted site for more information on what you can sell.

3. Take photos from every angle.

Once you’ve decided what you want to sell, it’s time to get creative. You’ll need to take a variety of photos of your items from different angles. You want prospective buyers to see as much as they can, including any faults or marks.

Photos also need to be of high quality, and you’ll need to take pictures of any labels on branded items to prove their authenticity.

If you’re selling clothes, it’s always a good idea to take pictures of yourself wearing them if you can. This can help you to get more sales on Vinted, as it gives the buyers a good idea of what things look like on.

Once you’re happy, try editing your photos to improve the lighting, or add a few labels and borders to solidify your personal brand. You could even consider creating a photo collage to showcase as many item angles as possible – you have creative freedom!

4. Craft your Vinted listing.

Now it’s time to build out your item listing. To do this, all you need to do is:

  1. Open the app, and click on the central ‘Sell’ button on the bottom toolbar.
  2. Tap ‘Upload photos’. Make sure you add your photos in the right order – e.g. the front of the item first.
  3. Add your title. Try and make this as descriptive as possible without overloading. Well-structured titles can help you to get more views, as Vinted filters items into certain categories based on the keywords used.
  4. Add your description. Describe the item, including the colour, size and any defaults. You’ll also want to say how many times it’s been worn and describe its condition. Don’t be afraid to add a little personality, this is all part of building your brand.
  5. Choose your category. Work your way through the subcategories and select one that accurately describes your item.
  6. Add the brand, size, condition, colours and materials. Again, just work your way through the options and pick the one that best suits the item. You can often check the inside label for some of these details.

5. Research and set your price.

This is the important bit. You’ll want to do your research before setting your price, so you know how much similar items sell for. Search for your specific item, similar items and the brand and take a look at what other sellers are doing.

Although you want to make as much money as you can, it’s important to be aware that Vinted has millions of users, who might be selling similar items. This means there’s a lot of competition, so you want your prices to be competitive.

A good way to get more sales on Vinted is to master the art of the balanced price – and to be flexible. If a keen buyer messages you with a counteroffer, don’t immediately decline it – be prepared to barter.

Once you’ve added your price, set your parcel size and click ‘Upload’.

6. Wait for your items to sell.

And now you wait. It can be frustrating if your items haven’t gotten much traction – or perhaps they’ve gotten a healthy amount of likes but no bites. With this in mind, there are a few ways to help you boost your Vinted views and build traction for your shop.

7. Sold an item? It’s time to ship.

Once someone has paid for an item, you’ll be sent a preprepaid shipping label. You’ll then need to print this out and attach it to the label, or you can choose a digital label if you’re dropping it at a parcel deposit box or similar. This will be in the form or a QR code or barcode that you can scan when dropping off.

You’ll then need to take this parcel to your nearest post office or courier location to post it. Before you wrap everything up, consider adding in a small card to say thank you for their custom. These little touches go a long way when building your brand reputation.

8. Remember to give your buyer feedback.

That’s it! Your parcel should be with your buyer in a few days, depending on the delivery method. After they’ve received it, they’ll be prompted to give you feedback – and you should do the same for them.

You’ll be asked to rate them on their communication and the overall buying-selling experience. Feedback has an impact on the overall account ratings for both buyers and sellers – so keep this in mind throughout the process.
