Clean up layouts by cropping white margins

Use Acrobat’s Crop PDF tool to remove unnecessary white space and give your document a cleaner, more balanced look. Simply adjust the crop border around your content and apply it to one or more pages. Since cropping hides content rather than deleting it, it’s best to save a backup copy of your original file before making changes - so you can easily revert if needed.

Customise page sizes with precision

Whether you're standardising pages or resizing to fit specific dimensions, Acrobat lets you crop manually or enter exact measurements for a tailored result. To keep your document looking polished and professional, maintain consistent margins across all pages - this avoids uneven layouts or misaligned text and images.

Apply cropping across multiple pages

Once you’ve set the ideal crop for a page, you can apply the same settings across a page range or the entire document. This is especially helpful for scanned files or PDFs with inconsistent page sizes. After cropping, double-check that all text, graphics, and formatting elements are properly positioned and readable within the new layout.

Crop PDFs online — no downloads needed

With Acrobat’s online Crop PDF tool, you can trim and adjust pages right in your browser - no software or sign-in required. It works across devices, so you can edit from desktop, tablet, or mobile. While cropping won’t reduce file size, you can compress the PDF separately for easier sharing. It’s also a good idea to test the cropped file on different screens to ensure it displays correctly and remains user-friendly.

Questions? We have answers.

How do I crop a single page in a PDF?

After uploading the PDF file you want to crop and signing in for free, the Acrobat Crop PDF tool automatically outlines the first page of your PDF document with a rectangular cropping border. You can resize the crop area by dragging the border handles as desired. Select Crop when you’re ready to save your cropped PDF file.

You can use the Acrobat cropping tool in any web browser, such as Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome or Safari. As a result, you can use the tool on almost any operating system, such as Mac, Windows or Linux.

How do I crop multiple pages in a PDF?
Acrobat makes it easy to resize pages of different sizes for consistency. To auto-crop multiple pages in a PDF document, first designate a selected area on one page. Then select all pages as your desired page range or enter a range of consecutive pages that you want to crop. When you select Crop, Acrobat will apply the same cropping process to all designated pages.
Will my file size change when I crop a PDF?
Cropping a PDF doesn’t reduce file size because file content is hidden but not discarded. By resetting the page size, you can restore the page and its content to its original condition.
Can I reorganise my PDF after cropping pages?

Yes. After cropping a PDF file, you can organise the pages when you sign up for a seven-day free trial of Adobe Acrobat Pro.

The trial for Mac or Windows allows you to:

  • Delete, extract, insert, rotate, or rearrange pages.
  • Edit PDFs with OCR and merge files.
  • Reduce PDF file size and add headers, page numbers, bookmarks, or watermarks.
  • Convert files to and from PDF, including HTML, PNG, TIFF, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint formats.
Can I crop a PDF without losing quality?
Yes, cropping a PDF does not affect its quality. The cropping tool simply hides unwanted areas while maintaining the original resolution. If you need to compress the file size without reducing quality, consider using Acrobat’s compress PDF tool.
Is there a way to undo a crop after saving the PDF?
If you have cropped a PDF but need to restore the hidden content, you can reopen the file in Acrobat and adjust the crop settings. Since cropping does not delete content, you can reset the page size to bring back the original layout.
Can I crop a PDF on my mobile device?
Yes, Acrobat’s online crop tool works on mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets. Simply access the tool via a web browser like Safari or Chrome, upload your PDF, and adjust the crop area as needed.
How can I ensure a consistent crop across all pages?
To crop multiple pages consistently, first adjust the cropping area on one page, then select All pages or specify a range. Acrobat will apply the same crop settings across the selected pages to ensure uniformity.
