LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES Upgrade Center
Adobe® LiveCycle® Digital Signatures ES was initially introduced with LiveCycle 7 under the name Adobe LiveCycle Document Security. With the release of LiveCycle ES in June 2007, this solution component was enhanced, reconfigured, and given a new name to more accurately reflect its capabilities within the overall suite: Adobe LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES. In June 2008, Adobe announced LiveCycle ES Update 1, which enhanced its capabilities even further.

Digital Signatures ES
Upgrading from LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES to LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES Update 1
- What are the new features in the LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES Update 1 release?
- LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES Update 1 includes the following new capabilities:
- Support for signature validation compatible with Adobe Reader® 9 and Adobe Acrobat® 9
- Dynamic control over signature field properties — you can now programmatically configure the signature field properties to control who can sign the document
- Support for batch-signing processes via a new signature software programming interface (SPI) — now after reviewing a batch of documents, you can sign multiple documents in batch mode rather than opening each document individually
- What are the key enhancements to LiveCycle Workbench ES?
- Key enhancements to LiveCycle Workbench ES include:
- Record and playback: Debug your LiveCycle ES applications by recording processes as they're executed on the server. If you come across a problem during development, play the recordings back to see the routes your process took and the values of variables at each step.
- Process validation: Use this new feature to make sure that your processes are well formed before deploying them to the server.
- Ease-of-use enhancements: Find the services and properties you need quickly.
- What are the key enhancements to LiveCycle ES Foundation ?
- The key enhancements to LiveCycle ES Foundation are:
- PKI encryption and decryption
- Support for AES-256 encryption in Adobe Reader 9 and Adobe Acrobat 9
- Scripted deployment, which enables you to automate and maintain applications from development and staging to production
- Process deletion, which enables script-based deletion of completed processes that are no longer needed
- Backup and restore, which offers enhanced services that better support 24x7 environments
- User management enhancements that support single sign-on, Microsoft Active Directory referral, Domino LDAP, and other services
- JMX support to more easily monitor LiveCycle ES applications using third-party tools
- What are the additions to the platform matrix?
- These new additions include:
- What are the steps required to upgrade?
- The LiveCycle ES installation and configuration process provides an upgrade mode. If selected, no additional upgrade steps are required.
- How do I prepare to upgrade to LiveCycle ES?
- To help you prepare your environment to upgrade to LiveCycle ES, review the Planning your upgrade to Adobe LiveCycle ES Update 1 technical guide (PDF, 1.3M) and the LiveCycle ES upgrade documentation (PDF, 822k).
- How do I request an upgrade?
- If your organization holds a current maintenance and support contract, your designated point-of-contact receives an e-mail containing a complementary upgrade coupon and detailed instructions on the process when each new version is released. If you don't have access to this e-mail or if you would like to learn more about the process, contact Adobe customer service.
Document Security 7
Upgrading from LiveCycle Document Security 7 to LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES Update 1
- Why did Adobe change the name from Adobe LiveCycle Document Security 7 to Adobe LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES?
- The new name, LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES, more clearly reflects the digital signature functionality of this solution component. Adobe LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES software lets you use digital signatures to preserve the integrity and authenticity of a document as it is transferred among users, whether it is passed within or beyond the firewall, downloaded offline, or submitted back to your organization.
- With LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES, you can automate the process of certifying and signing documents, as well as validating signatures in documents that are submitted back to your organization. It also lets you automate the process of certifying and signing documents within corporate workflows.
- What are the top reasons to upgrade to LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES?
- LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES offers many new features, including:
- Signing operation: Control several aspects of digital signatures used in a PDF document. The signing operation can define:
- How the digital signature appears in the document
- The signature algorithm used for signing
- The properties set in signature profiles used while signing
- The inclusion of embedded revocation checks in the signature field property
- Signature field creation: Control who can sign the PDF document using signature field properties defined in the PDF 1.7 specification.
- Signature field property modification: Control the signature properties of an existing signature field.
- Signature validation: Take advantage of the following features:
- Validation of XML digital signatures
- Configuration of revocation check failover from OCSP to CRL and CRL to OSCP
- Enhanced signature status information that can be used when developing business processes
- RFC3280-compliant validation and support for specifying path validation options at runtime
- Per-invocation control of the verification time and revocation check styles used for revocation checks, rather than using a global setting
- TrustStore configuration: LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES relies on the TrustStore repository as the database in which security data is stored. Trust chains are dynamically added to the TrustStore repository without requiring a restart of the database.
- Other API functionality: New APIs allow granular control over signature processing: ClearSignature, ClearSignatureField, and RemoveSignatureField. The signing profile can also be controlled using the API (seed values). You can also use the API to specify a policy OID for each trust anchor.
- Added standards compliancy: The following standards are supported:
- XML DigSig standards
- SHA-2 family of algorithms for encryption
- RFC3280
- Support for FIPS mode: Configure LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES to run with the Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) option enabled. The FIPS option restricts data protection to FIPS 140-2–approved algorithms using the RSA BSAFE Crypto-J 3.5.2 encryption module with FIPS 140-2 validation certificate 590.
- Configuration of service attributes in a web-based interface: Configure Signature service attributes in the Archive Administration area of the Adobe Administration Console. For example, set up watched folders and endpoints for service invocation, and configure remote APIs and parameters for orchestration.
- What's involved in an upgrade technically?
- LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES offers two sets of APIs to make it more convenient to upgrade: the original LiveCycle Document Security 7.x APIs and the new LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES APIs. There's no need to modify your application immediately after you install LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES. However, because the LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES APIs are new, it makes sense for new applications to leverage the capabilities of the new APIs. Existing applications can be migrated to the new APIs when it makes sense for the organization to do so. The LiveCycle Document Security 7.x APIs will be maintained for two major versions of LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES. The components that render the forms behind the APIs are the same.
- Do I have to rewrite my application when I upgrade?
- Not unless you want to take advantage of the new features. During upgrade you can choose to maintain backward compatibility if you want to explore the functionality first.
- How is LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES licensed?
- LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES is licensed for use on the server in a CPU-based pricing model. Contact an Adobe representative for additional licensing information.
- Can I get a trial version of LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES?
- Yes. You can download LiveCycle Digital Signatures ES, along with most of the solution components, as part of the Adobe LiveCycle ES trial.
