LiveCycle Rights Management ES2 Upgrade Center

Adobe® LiveCycle® Rights Management was introduced under the name Adobe LiveCycle Policy Server. With the release of LiveCycle ES in June 2007, the software was enhanced and renamed LiveCycle Rights Management ES to more accurately reflect its core capabilities in the context of the overall suite. With the latest release, Adobe has further enhanced the capabilities of the LiveCycle Rights Management ES2 module.

The upgrade to LiveCycle Rights Management ES2 expands your ability to engage in sensitive business electronically, helping to ensure that the right version of authorized information is available whenever and wherever required. The latest release provides enhanced flexibility and ease of use to gain value from rights management protection in more areas across the enterprise.
What are the new features in LiveCycle Rights Management ES2?
LiveCycle Rights Management ES2 provides the following enhancements:
  • New APIs that enable automated server-side protection of Microsoft Office documents to protect documents in repositories such as enterprise content management or large ERP/CRM systems
  • A new LiveCycle Launchpad interface available as an Adobe AIR® application on the desktop that connects end users with LiveCycle services such as PDF generation and rights management. Control of the Launchpad UI is managed remotely by IT using the flexible service-oriented architecture of LiveCycle.
  • Simplified group creation for creating intuitive, dynamic groups to share documents and collaborate more securely between organizations
  • Improved Office client support, including dynamic watermarks on documents to deter data loss and a new auto-apply policy to enable protection whenever an unprotected document is saved for compliance purposes

Rights management is a more commonly used and understood term and more appropriately describes the functionality of the Rights Management ES2 module.
What are the top reasons to upgrade to LiveCycle Rights Management ES2?
LiveCycle Rights Management ES2 is tightly integrated with other LiveCycle ES2 modules. Using the LiveCycle process design perspective in LiveCycle Workbench ES2 or the Java™ API tool, you can automate the application of policies to PDF documents and forms. It also allows for the distribution of these documents to end users. LiveCycle Rights Management ES2 also offers many new features, including:
  • Improved integration for server-side encryption of PDF documents
  • Ability for workgroups to administer their own policies through policy sets
LiveCycle Rights Management ES2 supports a growing ecosystem of file format protection, including:
  • PDF in Adobe Acrobat® and Adobe Reader®
  • CAD documents in:
    • Dassault CATIA V5
    • PTC Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 4.0
    • XVL within Lattice XVL Studio
  • DOC, XLS, and PPT in Microsoft Office
The module also offers:
  • An improved SDK and customization of the user experience
  • Improved integration with LDAP directories and better integration with large repositories of users and groups
  • Higher security possible through AES-256 encryption
  • Improved SSO and the ability for client applications to save credentials to minimize the impact of user authentication
